ORGAN India

ORGAN India Inspiring people to pledge their organs for donation after death. A Parashar Foundation Initiative The reason for this is personal.

Inspiring people to pledge their organs for donation after death, passing on the gift of life to others. The Organ Receiving & Giving Awareness Network (ORGAN) India was launched in March 2013 as an initiative of the Parashar Foundation, an NGO based in Delhi. The Parashar Foundation was set up in 2005 by late Shri Ashok Parashar to help the poor by providing funds to various schools, health centr

es, and other organizations. In 2013 Creation of Awareness on all aspects Organ Donation & Transplantation became the sole aim of the Foundation. Our former Chairperson, Late Mrs. Kirti Parashar, was told in 2012 that she needed a heart transplant. Although she had the means, the best doctors and a family who supported her, there was no one organization they could turn to for the most basic help on what to do, where to go, how things work. The wait in Delhi for a heart transplant could have been endless. At the time, there was little awareness of Organ Donation. Since 2013, the Foundation has focused on creating awareness on Organ Donation under ORGAN (Organ Receiving & Giving Awareness Network) India. ORGAN India is also fully supported by the Vijaya Gujral Foundation, an NGO based in Delhi. Kirti Parashar eventually moved to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to wait for a new heart, which she thankfully received from an organ donor on December 13th. She got 5 wonderful years with a new heart until we lost her in November 2018. Our mission remains unwavering:

*To increase/raise awareness on organ donation through information dissemination via various media and platforms such as social media, radio, television, awareness sessions in schools, colleges, hospitals and other institutions, and training others to carry out the programme.
*To educate those suffering from organ failure about their various options, and to help them in their ordeal by offering information, advice, counselling, and helping prevent the illness and death of those with organ failure.
*To influence public policy through advocacy in India by becoming leaders in public awareness and the collaborative efforts of all NGOs in this field. Instagram Handle: organ_india

20,019 lives were changed through transplants in 2025. But 89,839 are still waiting. For many, that wait means uncertainty, hope, and time that feels endless.

The difference between these numbers is where awareness and action matter most. Pledge to be an organ donor via organindia.org

5,00,000 people in India need an organ transplant every year, but only 3% actually receive one.

This gap isn’t just a statistic — it represents thousands of lives still waiting, hoping, and holding on.

Awareness is where change begins, the more we know, the more lives we can help save.

Some bonds are strong enough to save a life. When Acharya Vedica’s mother needed a liver transplant, Acharya stepped forward to donate a part of her liver and give her mother a second chance at life.

Today, both Acharya and her mother are healthy, thriving, and living life fully — proving that organ donation can give families not just hope, but more time together.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate their strength, courage, and extraordinary bond.

Naman was born on 11th March 2015, a healthy baby. For the first few months, everything seemed normal. But at just 4–5 months old, things started to change.

A sonography revealed the truth his parents weren’t prepared for. One kidney had already shrunk and failed, the other was at risk. Naman was diagnosed with Posterior Urethral Valves, which later progressed to Chronic Kidney Disease. By the age of 5, Naman was on dialysis for 2 years.

Through it all, one person never left his side—his mother, Neha Luthra. In June 2022, she made the decision that would change everything.
She donated her kidney to her son. On 7th June 2022, Naman got a second chance at life.

Today, he’s back to being a child and playing cricket, football, even horse riding. This Mother's Day, we celebrate mothers like Neha
whose strength, love, and courage give their children not just life but a second one.

What seemed like a simple illness turned into kidney failure and a year of dialysis. At just 18, Dinesh Kumar faced it all.

But behind his strength was his mother—standing by him through every moment. And when it mattered most, she made a life-changing decision. She donated her kidney to her son.

Today, he’s living a life that once felt uncertain, all thanks to his mother’s donation. This Mother's Day, we’re reminded that some mothers give life more than once.

In moments of loss, families are asked to make difficult decisions.

In India, organ donation can only happen with their consent. Talking to your loved ones about your decision today can make that moment a little clearer - because one conversation can make a life-saving difference.
