Charity should be done in private- kuch baatein khuda aur uske bande ke darmiyan hi rahni chahiye.
"But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing."
Matthew 6:3 NIV
However, an NGO can only gain credibility through transparency.
arnARI understands that Charity must not only be done, but must also be seen to be done. This principle finds its roots in legal jurisprudence.
In 1923, Lord Chief Justice of England famously said, "Justice should not only be done, but manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done."
This was a historic judgment which overruled the decision of the lower Court due to impropriety in court proceedings.
The lower Court defended its actions stating that the alleged impropriety had no bearing on the decision of the Court, yet the Chief Justice invoked the higher standard for judicial accountability, and held that,
“Nothing is to be done which creates even a suspicion that there has been an improper interference with the course of justice.”
The appearance of impropriety is enough to invalidate a decision. Likewise, arnARI goes above and beyond to record and publicly share all its donation drives- to remove even a hint of suspicion regarding our activities.
This involves more work for us and everytime we are slacking, Cucu's face surfaces in our mind and we can almost hear her mouthing the words of the character Honey in the movie, The Secret Path,
"God is watching. And so am I."
The movie is a reminder of good old fashioned values and human integrity. It's about domestic violence, child sexual abuse, and one woman's determination to fight against all odds to protect the child she loved- even beyond the grave.
Cucu is watching. And we wouldn't want to get on her wrong side.
