Kapil - From Kahani ki Naav to Chidiya Chidiya Udti Jaye, we thought we were already having the time of our lives with Kapil Pandey’s performance — and then he introduced us to Tuntuni. The classic stories of Tuntuni, written by Upendrakishore Roychowdhury and retold by Kapil Pandey (published by Eklavya), unfolded into a riot of laughter, giggling, dancing, and plenty of singing.

By the end of it all, it was difficult to tell who was the madari and who was the jamura — and that, my friends, is a secret you’ll only understand if you attend one of Kapil’s sessions.

Richa Jha decided to use her picture book Mommies for a Schoolaroo session with upper middle and senior grade students. Oh boy! what an eye-opener it was.

The conversations were anything but simple. Through the pages of the book and the stunning illustrations by Priya Sebastian, we dove into the idea of ‘mother’. Who she is, who society thinks she should be and who the students think their mothers could be.

Richa, the amazing author that she is, handled the conversations that were full of emotion, talking about identity and relationships skillfully, gently goading the students to revisit the idea of motherhood. She had touched a chord!

Here’s our tip, for young parents start with the book when you introduce the concept of family to your little one. For older ones, here’s your chance to revisit the idea of mother with your child.

And for those children who are reading this - here’s a lovely Mother’s day gift for your mum.

It’s always special to watch books find their readers. And with that being at the very first Schoolaroo - it was a delight!

Stories weren’t just read. From curious questions to hands raising to answer to discovering new topics, the interactions truly made the books come alive.
