Lotus Roots – India–Sri Lanka Art Project

Empowerment is delighted to share the successful completion of the Lotus Roots – India–Sri Lanka Artists Project, held in Sri Lanka, bringing together artists from both countries in a spirit of creativity, friendship, and cultural dialogue.

The project featured inspiring painting sessions by Indian and Sri Lankan artists, creating a vibrant space for artistic exchange. A special highlight was the visit to the studio of renowned Sri Lankan artist Senaka Senanayake, which was an enriching experience for all participating artists.

An exhibition of the works created during the camp was held at The Shoppe at City of Dreams Sri Lanka, with Rambabu, Head of the Chancellery at the Embassy of India Colombo, as the Chief Guest.

Beyond the art sessions, the artists also experienced the rich cultural and natural heritage of Sri Lanka, including a memorable visit to the magnificent Dambulla Cave Temple, and moments of relaxation and inspiration at the serene beaches of Hikkaduwa and Mirissa.

The project was wonderfully managed by young artist and coordinator Riya Sharma along with Vishi, whose dedication ensured the smooth ex*****on of the program.

Empowerment extends heartfelt thanks to Mahishini Colonne for her continued support and encouragement towards this cultural collaboration.

The Lotus Roots project stands as a beautiful example of how art builds bridges between cultures and creates lasting friendships.

I’m happy to share that Empowerment is organising another International Art Project to celebrate its core value — cultural diversity. This time, it brings together India and Sri Lanka across Colombo, Sigiriya, and Hikkaduwa, creating a beautiful exchange of creativity, friendship, and artistic dialogue.
A special highlight of this journey has been an unforgettable visit to Senaka Senanayake’s studio in Colombo — a space that feels less like a house and more like a living museum, filled with warmth, colour, and an inspiring creative spirit. Meeting Senaka and experiencing the genuine hospitality of his wife, Jennyfer, made the moment truly special and deeply memorable.
It’s also a proud and joyful moment to see the young and talented Riya Sharma leading this project with such energy and vision, bringing this initiative to life in the most meaningful way.
Heartfelt thanks to H.E. Mahishini Colonne, Malaka Talwatte, and everyone whose support made this experience possible.
My best wishes to all participating Indian and Sri Lankan artists — may this journey continue to inspire, connect, and celebrate the beauty of art beyond borders.

Beyond Borders 25 , Art and Culture Festival

A group of artists and students had an enriching experience visiting the studios of renowned artists Manish Pushkale and Professor Niren Sengupta, where they gained firsthand insights into their creative processes, techniques, and philosophies. The visit provided a unique opportunity to engage with their artistic journeys and understand the nuances of their work. Additionally, the artists visited Sushant School of Art and Design, fostering a dialogue on contemporary art practices. Meanwhile, students from World University of Design (WUD) had the privilege of observing and interacting with Professor Rajan Shripad Phulari during a live painting session. This immersive experience allowed them to explore various art techniques, deepening their understanding of artistic expression and practice.

Beyond Borders: An Art and Culture Festival has been a celebration of creativity, diversity, and meaningful artistic exchanges. On February 23rd, we hosted an enriching workshop at Treasure Art Gallery, where ten esteemed international artists from France, Austria, Serbia, Slovenia, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Brazil, Hungary, and Greece shared their unique creative vision with aspiring young artists.

Each artist brought their unique creative vision, reflecting the rich artistic traditions and contemporary expressions of their respective countries. Through their work and interactions, they introduced students to new perspectives, techniques, and ways of storytelling, encouraging them to think beyond conventional artistic boundaries and embrace a global artistic dialogue.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Rajan Shripad Fulari, Dean of Visual Arts at World University of Design, Sonipat, for recognizing the value of this initiative and sending their talented students to immerse themselves in this artistic journey. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and eagerness to learn from global masters truly made the workshop a vibrant and rewarding experience.

Such collaborations strengthen the bridge between tradition and innovation, between learning and creating, and between artists across cultures. We look forward to many more such meaningful exchanges in the future.
