It is a season of new beginnings. Baisakhi brings with it the bahar of summer and the promise of a year that will be better. In a time when there has been more darkness than light in the world, ‘Aj Da Roz Mubarak Chadiya’ is a celebration of being alive — of love, of healing, and of finding peace in the words of poets who have always walked toward the light.

Come, join us for an evening of hope with singer and storyteller Rene Singh, and narrator, writer, and feminist Syeda Hameed.

There will be music, singing, poetry, and mohabbat in abundance. The kalaams will be in Hindavi, Urdu, Farsi, and Saraiki — a reminder of how deeply connected we are in the land of five rivers, and how language, music, and poetry transcend borders. From Amir Khusrau, who wrote in Farsi, Hindvi, and Punjabi, to Baba Bulleh Shah — this is an evening to seek light and love.

In the words of Amir Khusrau:
“Khusrau darya prem ka, ulti wa ki dhaar, Jo utra so doob gaya, jo dooba so paar.”

We carry stories of leaving in our hearts, in our blood, and in our memories, stitched together and sewn collectively by families. The gap between fact and feeling is smoothed over.

In A STITCH IN TIME: MEMORIES MIGRATION MENDING join writer PRIYA HAJELA as she shares stories of migration that are personal, imagined, repurposed, and woven together in her book ‘Ladies Tailor’.

Textile artivist RUBINA SINGH draws on her own experience of moving from Chandigarh to Delhi and of carrying with her the phulkari her grandmother brought with her during Partition to find ways to repair the tears of the past.

The art of ‘rafoo’ brings to light how the word “repair” has disappeared from our lives, our language, and our society, taking with it our ability to stitch together what is torn. The conversation focuses on hope on finding ways to tell broken stories, mend them, and come together to stitch new narratives.

In conversation with Dr. SUMNEET KAUR PAHWA, Associate Professor of English, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

We end with a rafoo circle led by Rubina Singh.

Tractors, boats, full hearts, helping hands and prayers. Panjab needs everything and everyone.

Over the past week, Panjab lies submerged in water with the torrential rains that continue unabated.

12 out of the 23 districts are on red alert, 2.5 lakh people have been affected. Fields are inundated, homes are flooded, livestock drowned, lives lost, livelihoods destroyed.

While Agla Varka celebrates Panjab’s resilience and its history and cultural richness, we need to speak about the destruction, neglect, its isolation at its time of need. From conflict zones, floods, earthquakes, Kashmir to Kerala, Panjab has turned up to help. Yet, now it stands alone, in its devastation, its grief, its hour of need - absent from pages of mainstream newspapers and television channels. Panjab has been there each time India needs help. Now it needs India. It needs hope. It deserves hope. It needs every hand. Because you can only rebuild hope. As Nanak said Sarbat da bhala.
