Inception: Ladli Foundation, India
Driven by concerns of health, education & equality for vulnerable women as an integral and critical dimension of human rights, Ladli Foundation became a reality in 2012 as a grassroots social catalyst. It was founded by Devendra Kumar, whose incredible journey began as a child laborer in a poverty-stricken environment. Where he faced numerous hardships and atrocities during his orphaned and challenging childhood. Born in a crime-prone slum, he endured abandonment by his parents, who left him with his three-day-old infant sister when he was just two years old. Despite these adversities, Devendra's indomitable spirit and resilience led him to find solace and purpose in serving others. Driven by his determination to protect his sister from child marriage and dowry, Devendra founded the "Ladli Foundation" with the noble mission of uplifting the oppressed and disadvantaged. His personal experiences as a child laborer and his encounters with delinquents and drug addicts further fueled his commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of those facing similar challenges. Over the past decade, the organization has successfully implemented various significant events and initiatives. These include a major Gender Sensitization movement achieved through a Half-Marathon and Street Plays, the International Kanya-Pujan event aimed at promoting girls' education and healthcare while respecting traditional beliefs, the Saheli Primary healthcare and Sensitization camps held in slums, the Pathanshaala mobile education classes targeting street and slum children, the Shagun Mass weddings initiative to combat child marriages and trafficking, the groundbreaking JOSH initiative diverting young boys from drug abuse and crimes through sports and skill training, and the provision of dry ration, milk, and personal hygiene kits to migrants and laborers during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. These programs and mega-events organized by the organization have garnered praise and were witnessed by esteemed individuals including the Union Home Minister, Union Minister of Social Justice, Women & Child Development, Youth Affairs, Department Secretaries of the Government of India, international diplomats, Bollywood celebrities, and other dignitaries.
