Deepening support for young entrepreneurs in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu.

As part of the BYST–ALF Kolli Hills Cluster, our team, joined by Mr. Vijayakumar, Senior Director, connected with leading colleges including NKR Govt Arts College for Women, Selvamm Arts & Science College and the district banking network to strengthen support for youth entrepreneurship.

From discussions on the Letter of Cooperation (LOC) and upcoming Mentor Development Programme (MDP) to exploring new collaborations with the district banking network, the focus remains clear — creating more opportunities for young people to become successful entrepreneurs.

BYST conducted a Mentor Development Programme (MDP) for 14 CII CEL officials, focused on strengthening mentoring capabilities through practical tools and approaches and expert-led interactive sessions.

From awareness to action.

BYST–CISCO Vijayawada conducted an Entrepreneurship Awareness Generation Programme at Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Atkur Village (supported by CISCO India CSR), encouraging participants to explore self-employment opportunities, innovative business ideas, and sustainable livelihood
pathways.

With guidance from mentors Mr. P. Srinivas and Mr. Sriramarao, the session inspired participants to think entrepreneurially and identify opportunities within their communities.

Five districts. Five states.

Under the IndusInd Bank CSR Holistic Rural Development Programme, BYST delivered the entrepreneurship and enterprise development component across Dharashiv (Maharashtra), Begusarai (Bihar), Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh), Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu), and Baran (Rajasthan).

790 entrepreneurs were identified, mentored, and supported to build enterprises in their own districts. ₹35.5 crore in credit was facilitated, and 450 mentors were inducted to guide them.

Working in aspirational districts means starting where formal enterprise support is thinnest: limited access to credit, few visible role models, and little infrastructure for a young person with a business idea. BYST's response was the same one we apply everywhere, adapted to each geography. Identify the entrepreneur, pair them with a mentor who understands the local market, and stay the course.

The programme's learnings have since been shared with NITI Aayog and independently assessed by Grant Thornton Bharat, alongside partners including WOTR, PRADAN, AKDN, NSDC, and UNICEF India.
