Awareness empowers action. Confidence creates safer communities.

Railway Children India, in collaboration with Breakthrough Trust, conducted 5 awareness sessions across 5 communities, reaching 161 adolescents and parents on the issue of street harassment.

The sessions encouraged participants to reflect on how they can safely support someone experiencing harassment and respond effectively without putting themselves at risk.

Many participants shared that before the sessions they felt unsure or afraid to intervene. Afterwards, they reported feeling more confident and better equipped to support others when needed.

When communities are empowered with knowledge and practical skills, everyone becomes part of creating safer spaces for all.

We thank Ms. Rita Hinduja-Chhabria for her continued support that steers the course of youth empowerment.

Real change starts with understanding the communities we serve.

Railway Children India conducted a training on the Community Survey Tool in preparation for an upcoming survey that will help us better understand community needs and design more effective interventions.

A total of 10 peer leaders participated in the training. Their involvement is particularly valuable as they belong to the communities where the survey will be conducted and have a strong understanding of local realities.

Throughout the session, the peer leaders actively engaged in discussions, asked questions, and demonstrated enthusiasm for contributing to the survey process. They expressed excitement about playing a meaningful role in helping strengthen their communities.

By involving young people in the process, we are not only gathering information but also building local ownership and leadership.

We thank Ms. Rita Hinduja-Chhabria for her continued support that steers the course of youth empowerment.

Every missing child leaves a story behind. Support us to help rewrite it with safety, care, and hope.

A missing child is not just a number. It is a child facing uncertainty, a family searching for answers, and a future at risk.

Children who go missing are often exposed to dangers such as trafficking, exploitation, abuse, and homelessness. Timely intervention can make the difference between vulnerability and protection.

Railway Children India works to identify, support, and safeguard children found alone or at risk at railway stations and transport hubs. Through care, counselling, family tracing, and coordinated action, we help children find their way back to safety.

Because every child deserves a future defined by hope, not harm.

Creating safer railway spaces requires awareness across every level and department.

Railway Children India, in collaboration with Central Railway, conducted a child protection training session at the Indian Railways Institute of Electrical Engineering (IRIEEN), Nashik, Maharashtra. A total of 110 participants from 15 zones of Indian Railways attended the session.

The training focused on Railway SOPs, the JJ Act, child protection legislations, and the role of the Electrical Engineering Department in ensuring child safety and protection within railway spaces.

The session also encouraged discussions around timely intervention and the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding children. Participants appreciated the initiative and shared their commitment to supporting children in vulnerable situations.

Strengthening awareness among railway stakeholders plays an important role in building a safer environment for every child.

Some families do not need perfection. They simply need a chance to reconnect.

We are grateful and emotional to share the successful completion of the 2nd Residential Family Camp in Mumbai. The camp created a safe and nurturing space where children and parents could reconnect emotionally, spend quality time together, and begin healing as families.

Throughout the camp, moments of laughter, tears, conversations, hugs, and shared experiences reminded everyone of the importance of emotional connection within families. For many participants, it was the first time in a long while that they truly sat together, listened to each other openly, and felt emotionally supported.

Through fun activities, bonding exercises, one-to-one and family sessions, everyone found joy in simply being together again. Parents shared that they felt closer to their children again, while children expressed happiness in feeling heard, valued, and loved.

The camp concluded with the encouragement and appreciation of stakeholders and child protection authorities, who recognised the importance of such healing spaces for children and families.

Because when families heal together, children feel safer, stronger, and more hopeful about the future.

Protecting children requires strong systems, trained frontline staff, and collective action.

From 18th to 30th May 2026, Railway Children India conducted a series of child protection training sessions and coordination meetings across several railway stations in Delhi NCR.

The sessions brought together personnel from RPF, GRP, TT and commercial departments, along with child protection stakeholders and district authorities. Discussions focused on Railway SOPs and Guidebooks on child protection, prevention of human trafficking, and practical response mechanisms for supporting children in vulnerable situations.

Interactive discussions, Q&A sessions, and collaborative meetings helped strengthen awareness, coordination, and frontline preparedness across railway spaces.

These efforts play a vital role in building safer transport environments where children at risk can be identified and protected in time.

Behind every statistic is a child who needed help at the right moment.

In 2025–26, Railway Children India safeguarded 3,021 children found alone or at risk across railway stations and vulnerable transit spaces. These were children facing dangers such as trafficking, abuse, neglect, violence, emotional distress, or life on the streets.

Through outreach teams, Child Help Desks, and close coordination with railway authorities and district child protection systems, timely interventions were carried out to ensure children were moved to safety before harm could reach them.

Many girls protected during this period had left unsafe situations including violence, child marriage, and abuse. Immediate care, emotional support, and safe restoration processes helped ensure they received protection and support when they needed it most.

Railway Children India continues to build a coordinated child protection network that goes beyond rescue and focuses on long-term safety, rehabilitation, and hope for every child.

Because every intervention can change a child’s journey.

Every child who leaves home carries a reason and a story behind it.

Children may leave home due to family conflict, violence, poverty, pressure to work, curiosity, or the attraction of big cities and freedom.

What may begin as an escape or adventure can quickly turn into vulnerability, exposing children to exploitation, trafficking, abuse, and unsafe living conditions.

We are highlighting some of the common reasonsas to why children leave home and why understanding these causes is essential for prevention and protection.

At Railway Children India, we work with children found alone at railway stations and bus terminals, ensuring timely intervention, support, and safe reunification wherever possible.

Together, awareness and action can help protect vulnerable children before they slip into danger.

Every missing child leaves a story behind. Together, we can help change its ending.

On International Missing Children’s Day, we remember that behind every missing child is a family hoping for their safe return and a child who deserves protection, care, and a future free from harm.

Children who go missing are often exposed to serious risks including trafficking, exploitation, abuse, and homelessness. Early intervention and public awareness play a crucial role in keeping children safe.

Railway Children India is the only organisation in India building a coordinated child protection protocol across railways, civil societies, and district systems - protecting children across the nation before, during and after they are at risk.

Together, through awareness and collective action, we can help protect children and bring hope back to their stories.

Curiosity brought them here, to a city unfamiliar.
Support us to help them reach homes safely.

Sometimes children leave home chasing curiosity, adventure, or dreams they do not fully understand but unfamiliar cities can quickly turn into unsafe spaces for these vulnerable children.

Railway Children India identifies and supports children who arrive alone, lost, or at risk at transport terminals. Through timely intervention, counselling, and family tracing, we work to ensure children are protected and safely reunited with their families before they slip into danger or life on the streets.

A small act of support can help a child find their way home
