National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) The National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) NASVI is a national federation of street vendor organizations.

It is a coalition of Trade Unions, Community Based Organizations (CBOs), Non Government Organizations (NGOs) and professionals. NASVI was registered in November, 2003 under the Societies Registration Act of 1860.

Street vendors in Jodhpur are facing eviction, confiscation of goods, and harassment in the name of anti-encroachment, putting the livelihoods of hundreds of families at risk. Vendors have raised concerns over removals without proper rehabilitation, consultation, or due process under the Street Vendors Act, 2014.

Taking serious note of the situation, NASVI has written to the Jodhpur administration seeking immediate intervention, an end to unlawful evictions, and strict compliance with the Street Vendors Act.

Street vendors in Varanasi’s Dashashwamedh area are facing harassment and eviction in the name of anti-encroachment, even in designated vending zones.

On 4 May, Market Committee President Anoop Kumar Gupta and NASVI member Dharamraj Gupta were detained at Dashashwamedh police station and have not yet been released.

NASVI stands firmly with street vendors and strongly condemns such harassment, demanding immediate release and strict accountability in line with the Street Vendors Act, 2014.

On the occasion of 11 years of the Street Vendors Act, Footpath Ki Awaaz (FKA) has been relaunched.

Footpath Ki Awaaz is the monthly newsletter of the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), bringing together important news, activities, inspiring stories, and emerging issues related to street vendors across the country. The newsletter reflects the ground realities of vendors and presents policies and developments that impact their lives and livelihoods.

The DEC Meeting in Gorakhpur brought together street vendors and stakeholders to discuss key issues around livelihoods and urban vending. Vendors raised concerns from new vending zones to protection from eviction. Stakeholders shared that work on vending zones is already underway, with plans for a Street Food Hub to support organised vending.

The meeting was organised by TLF Gorakhpur, in collaboration with NASVI and Nidan, and supported by Development Alternatives.
