Quotes from the Earth have been the first of its kind in the Indian Capital Since 2004. Using a discursive platform to highlight environmental challenges at the national and international level through films, which happen to be one of the most powerful medium of communication and discussion. The festival is a collaborative effort by Toxics Link and India International Centre, Delhi. Over a period

of two days it aims to bring under one umbrella the persistent and persuasive, with each day culminating into a panel discussion on the theme. Focusing on different issues, regions, and struggles to give audience a better chance to understand and engage with broader picture of the current status of environmental issues.

Join us for a stimulating day that will project some of the most pressing environmental issues of our times- onto the big screen at the India International Centre, today on the 9th biennial edition of "Quotes from the Earth''- an environmental film festival, the two days event on 1st and 2nd December. The films to be showcased are from Indian and international filmmakers,which are based on the themes such as environmental justice, water, conservation and sustainable living.

Rahul Ram, acclaimed musician, environmental activist and bass guitarist for the band Indian Ocean, will grace the film festival as chief guest. In addition, several filmmakers will be joining the event to engage in Q&As following the screening of their films.

Registration opens at 9:30 am, and the inaugural ceremony begins from 9:45 am . Screenings will commence from 11:45 am on 1st December, and from 10:30 am on 2nd December.

Hold your seat back, here comes, “Quotes from the earth- An environmental film festival,” reflecting the importance of sustainability and environmental issues across the globe, brings you “Manas and People”, on 01 December, 2022 | 11:45 am.

It is a story about the ecosystem people inhabited on the fringe of Manas National Park, a World Natural Heritage Site. The film portrays the way of life of the Bodo indigenous ethnic group and their association with the natural landscape. It reflects the ‘bio-culturalism’ of indigenous communities and their struggle to maintain the cultural ethos and earn a livelihood. The film also depicts the strategies and approach of ‘Conservation and Livelihood’ which is able to provide alternative livelihood to forest- dwellers along with the impact of conservation education. The story reveals how co-management approaches protected areas, with joint efforts of Government, NGO and local community able to strengthen conservation initiatives for nature and wildlife and improve ‘livelihood’ of the community.

About the Director-
Dip Bhuyan has been associated with film making since 1992 and began his independent career with the documentary film friends Forever –Common Reptiles of North East India in 2002. Since then, he has made more than 40 documentaries and fiction films. His film ‘Manah Aru Manuh’ won the Best Environment Film award in the 68th National Film Award, Ministry of I&B Govt. of India. he ALSO served as a Selection Committee Member for the Mumbai International Film Festival 2022, He was awarded the Best Director Award in 2013 for the film Sesh Asha- The Last Hope. In 2015 his film Resonance of Mother’s Melody. Both films were screened in the Indian Panorama of IFFI, Goa. Six of his films, namely, The Last Hope, The Divided Soul, Resonance of Mother’s Melody, Symphony of Silence, Manas and People, and Idiom of Rug, were also screened in many national and international film festivals,

“Toxic Neighbour” is a must watch! We bring you this film through “Quotes from the Earth- an Environmental Film Festival” at 5pm, 2nd December.

The film Toxics Naighbour narrates the struggle of Eugene Bourgeois had no concerns about nuclear energy when he built his farm next door to the world's largest nuclear facility in 1974. Over the next few decades exposure to nuclear plant caused hundreds of his sheep to be blinded, deformed, or killed. The film showcases Eugene's efforts to push his nuclear neighbour for greater transparency and accountability.

About the Director
Colin Scheven has been awarded with Grand Remi awards. His work has also won him the best Canadian documentary. He is credited with writing, directing, and producing at various projects. He also has been awarded with Rising star Award at Canada International Film Festival.
