Citizens4trees
Citizens4trees is an initiative of ordinary citizens to rise up and speak for the voiceless trees. More than 50000 trees are being cut in the heart of Delhi to build commercial complexes, offices, malls and a few houses for some high paying individuals.
The areas where these trees are marked to be cut are Sarojini Nagar, Naroji Nagar, Netaji Nagar,Thyagraj Nagar, Kasturba Nagar and Mohammadpur.
The first major protest against the tree cutting was held at DMS booth, Sarojini Nagar Police Station on 24 June 2018. Since then, several protests have been held at different places in parts of Delhi and NCR against insane cutting of trees.
According to National Forest Policy, the required tree cover in Delhi is 33% and the existing tree cover is just 20%. We are already short of 13% tree cover. Instead of meeting that, the Central Govt has taken the decision to cut 50000 fully grown trees in the heart of Delhi.
