A delegation of the J&K Veterinary Students Association, the veterinary wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), today met Agriculture Minister Javid Ahmad Dar amid continuing protests by veterinary students over their demand for an increase in stipend.

During the meeting, the delegation apprised the Minister of the students’ concerns and urged the government to address the longstanding demand at the earliest. The Minister assured the delegation that the matter would be resolved within 20 days and that the government would take necessary steps in this regard.

However, the students have decided to continue their protest until Tuesday, while awaiting a formal written assurance from the government. They maintained that a written commitment is necessary to build confidence among the protesting students and ensure that the assurance translates into concrete action.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has initiated deliberations with the Chief Minister’s Office to resolve the deadlock and facilitate an early resolution of the students’ demands. The Association has urged the government to engage with the students and ensure that the issue is settled through a clear and time-bound mechanism.

A delegation of the Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Wednesday called on Superintendent of Police, Dehradun, Pramod Kumar, and discussed issues concerning the safety, security and welfare of students and shawl sellers from Jammu & Kashmir residing and working in the district.

With the Uttarakhand Assembly elections approaching, the delegation urged the police administration to remain particularly vigilant and ensure that the peaceful environment in the state is not disturbed by any fringe, extremist or disruptive elements. It requested the police to take timely preventive and lawful action against any individual or group attempting to create fear, intimidation or insecurity among students, workers or other residents from J&K.
