LEAD India Leadership for Environment and Development- India. "Inspiring Leadership for a Sustainable World"

LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) is a unique, ever growing, live international network of professionals and organizations/ institutions, committed to the cause of development – “development that is environmentally sustainable, socially equitable and economically viable.”

The LEAD Network has a fleet of professional who are highly successful leaders working on complex local, as we

ll as global, environmental and development issues. These leaders undergo an intense Leadership program with us for one year and graduate to become LEAD Fellows – to be a part of the LEAD family forever. At the international level we are currently 2000 Fellows strong, spread over 90 countries across the globe. Established in 1991 as an outcome of the Rio Summit on Environment and development, today LEAD has country offices in 14 locations, including Anglophone West Africa, Brazil, Canada, China, Commonwealth of Independent States, Francophone Africa, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Southern & Eastern Africa, USA and UK. LEAD India is the Indian Chapter of LEAD and is functioning as an independent Non Government Organization registered under the Society’s Registration Act Registration Act XXI of 1860 for just over 20 years. We at LEAD India believe that to build a sustainable world, we need to build bridges between people, professions and countries. Our National Network of Fellows currently consists of over 192 established professionals with representations in most states of India. Our network consists of individuals and organizations geographically located across the length and breadth of the country. The LEAD Fellows hold key positions in government, non government, donor agencies, industry, public sector enterprises, media, and academia. Others work at grassroots level with communities, while others still provide support services aimed at building capacity for sustainable development. This multi sectoral composition places LEAD India in a unique position, not only to deliver quality products but products that have been validated through a process of cross sectoral insights across the entire spectrum and strata of society.

Progress does not emerge from action alone. It requires spaces where ideas are examined carefully, perspectives are heard fully, and commitments are revisited with honesty. These conversations are not incidental — they are foundational.

When individuals come together with attention and intent, the work deepens. Assumptions are clarified. Directions are strengthened. Responsibility becomes collective rather than individual.

Such moments may appear routine, but they hold significance. They ensure that effort remains aligned with purpose and that growth is guided by reflection, not momentum alone.

It is within this discipline of dialogue that meaningful progress takes form.

Reflection gives meaning to experience.
It allows people to pause, think, and connect their learning with their own understanding.

In these quiet moments, clarity begins to form — shaping how we engage with the world around us.
They influence how we listen in conversations, how we respond to challenges, and how we make choices in our daily lives, often in ways that are subtle but lasting.

On Republic Day, we reflect on the Constitution not as a document,
but as a lived practice.

Leadership emerges when voices are heard with respect,
experience is valued as 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦,
and dialogue becomes the foundation of learning and 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲.

This is how democracy strengthens —
one conversation at a time.

Leadership is often misunderstood as direction or authority.
In reality, it is revealed in moments of collective movement —
when people stay connected to purpose while navigating uncertainty together.

At LEAD, leadership is shaped through shared journeys, reflection, and responsibility.

It is less about who goes first, and more about how people move forward —with clarity, care, and commitment to the larger whole.

Leadership does not always look like standing in the front.
Often, it looks like standing beside — listening, noticing, and responding with care.

At lead we believe in practicing leadership in every moment:
when attention is given, when curiosity is encouraged,
and when people are trusted with their own growth.

These small acts shape confident individuals
and stronger communities over time.

Leadership is not always about making things happen.

Being okay if it happens,
and okay if it does not happen,
is a very powerful place to be.

This inner steadiness allows leaders to act without fear and respond without force. That is where real leadership begins.

We are delighted to share that Divya Tandon, Isaac Thomas, Padma Angmo, and Laṭlankimi have been selected for the 69th and 70th IATSS Forums. These four inspiring young leaders will soon embark on a 54-day immersive journey in Japan, where they will live, learn, and collaborate with changemakers from across the world.

Established in 1985, the IATSS Forum aims to nurture the next generation of leaders in the ASEAN region—leaders who believe in empathy, dialogue, and purpose-driven action. As the India Secretariat, LEAD India is proud to support the identification and selection of Indian participants for this transformative program each year.

As they prepare for this life-shaping journey, LEAD India is deeply grateful for its collaboration with the IATSS Forum, Japan- a partnership that continues to open doors for young leaders across the country.
