Lepcha Fabric is a traditional textile art of the Lepcha people, who are the indigenous inhabitants of Sikkim, a state in the northeastern part of India. Lepcha Fabric is characterized by its use of natural fibres, such as nettle and cotton, and its distinctive patterns and motifs that reflect the Lepcha culture and beliefs.

Nestled in the picturesque Vindhyachal valley and situated in the Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh, the town of Chanderi is famous world over for its magnificent weaves.Chanderi is a town of historical importance in Ashoknagar District of the state of Madhya Pradesh in India.

Chanderi is also famous for its brocades and muslins, especially for its handwoven Chanderi sarees. Here, master weavers use silk and cotton to create dazzling weaves, distinguished by beautiful borders.
Usually in subtle hues,the Chanderi sarees have sophistication hard to match. In the silk Zari sarees, influences of the Varanasi style are visible. They generally have a rich gold border and two gold bands on the pallav. The more exclusive ones have gold checks with lotus roundels all over which are known as butis.

What if I tell you that Kalamkari was born out of an art of story-telling ? Yes it's true, in ancient times people used to travel from village to village and tell stories & even drew it on canvas. A detailed and complex painting that ultimately results in exquisite designs.Initial representation of Kalamkari art remained confined to religious paintings that depicted Indian Gods. Kalamkari gained recognition during the Mughal dynasty and presently Andhra Pradesh is the largest producer of Kalamkari fabric.

Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is

a significant Hindu festival that resonates with the essence of righteousness prevailing over malevolence. This celebration is deeply rooted in Indian mythology and folklore, primarily commemorating the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravan. It is a time when the entire nation unites to mark the eternal truth – good ultimately prevails over evil.

In Bengali culture, this time of the year is marked by another grand celebration – Durga Puja. Goddess Durga, the divine embodiment of female power, is worshipped with devotion for five days. However, on the day of Dashami or Dussehra, it is time to bid her farewell. As Maa Durga leaves, people express their heartfelt desire for her return the following year.

Dussehra is celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm throughout India. Dussehra isn't just a festival; it's a celebration of hope and optimism.

Dussehra is a powerful reminder of the timeless lesson that virtue will always conquer vice. As the effigies of Ravan are set ablaze, let us ignite the flames of goodness in our hearts. May this Dussehra bring positivity, wealth, and success to you and your family, and may the light of righteousness guide your path throughout the year.

We at *S**C MACAY Hansraj Chapter* brings to you all a *Heritage Walk to Purana Quila* as a part of our *VIRASAT 2023*

Built on the site of Indraprastha, the oldest of Delhi's many cities, Purana Quila is roughly rectangular in shape and is known to have three gateways – Bara Darwaza or the Big Gate facing west, the Humayun Gate facing south, and the Talaqi Gate, which is often referred to as the forbidden gate.
