In 1990, Katha began working with women’s economic empowerment and community revitalization, namely founding the Katha School of Entrepreneurship and the Income Generation Programme, where women could go to be trained in skill sets such as sewing and stitching to prepare them to be entrepreneurs in their own communities. In working with these communities, we believe that empowering oneself is a pe
rsonal journey, and Each one of us must feel the need to be, as Gandhiji said, “the change we want to see in the world.” And this is what our women of the Govindpuri slum community have done. The training administered in the Katha School of Entrepreneurship empowers these women to be self-sufficient through obtaining and mastering skills in sewing and other crafts, allowing them to create sustainable livelihoods for their families. Each purchase you make empowers one woman to provide a sustainable income for her family.
