*Behind every dairy product is a mother like her.*
Yesterday evening, we received a call that left our team shaken.
Yashodha, a mother cow, was found collapsed by the roadside in unimaginable suffering. She had been lying in the same condition for the last 4 days in extreme pain, unable to stand. Years of repeated deliveries had left her body frail and weakened. A severe maggot-infested wound was tearing through her back, with hundreds of maggots making her condition worse by the hour.
She lay there in her own urine and cow dung, with thousands of flies covering her wounds. Sadly, she delivered her baby there only two days back. Newborn Krishna lay beside her hungry, terrified, and unable to understand why his mother couldn’t nurse him. He had not been fed since birth.
Yet even in that state, Yashodha’s spirit as a mother endured. When our team approached, she gathered every bit of strength she had left to shield Krishna, refusing to let anyone near him. Her eyes, filled with pain and fear, carried only one message: protect my baby.
The rescue was complex and high-risk. Before sending Yashodha for hospital care, our team bottle-fed Krishna right there at the roadside. It was his first meal in two days, and the relief in his tiny body was immediate. With the critical support of the Sgacc team and locals, we then brought both mother and calf to safety.
Yashodha’s story is not rare. It is the hidden cost of an industry that treats living beings as disposable. When cows are exhausted by repeated pregnancies and can no longer produce, they are abandoned. When calves are born male or mothers fall ill, they are left on the streets to die
This is why we urge you: go vegan. Ditch milk and dairy products to save cows like Yashodha. Every glass of milk has a story behind it, and most end in suffering. Your choices can break this cycle.
