Founded in 1983, CanAssist is mainly a fundraising society based in New Delhi, supporting local charities and groups to promote the self-sufficiency of women and children through health and educational initiatives. When the July flooding reached dangerous levels, residents of the Riverbed community had to evacuate.

After losing their homes and personal belongings to the river, is helping the community rebuild their homes, providing home-cooked meals and much more.

It is hard to even just try to imagine what having your entire home engulfed in water would feel like.

communities on the riverbed near ISBT and Anna Nagar, situated next to ITO took the maximum brunt of the recent record-breaking rains in Delhi.

Within the span of an hour residents’ homes were inundated with water and they were forced to vacate them.

They are now likely to face the challenge that comes with the aftermath and the spread of waterborne diseases like malaria, typhoid, cholera, dengue and chikungunya.

Ummeed Rainbow Home in South Delhi is home to 90 boys who formerly lived on the streets.

Ummeed’s mission is to ensure a safe and happy childhood as well as to help them access protection, education, nutrition, and health care.

Kade and Ittila from Australia did.

Their whirlwind trip to Delhi included a visit to Ummeed Sneh Ghar where they delivered duffle bags full of clothing and hygiene products for the children.

The language barrier didn’t prevent friendly competition about who had the better cricket team! And the bag full of lollies helped ensure a lively and fun filled visit. Gestures like Kade and Ittila’s make a difference.

Kilkari Rainbow Orphanage for girls is home to 100 street youth who either do not have parents, or whose parents are unable to care for them. Through the generosity of donors from the CanAssist Feed the Children drive, Kilkari received over 5 lakh to help provide nutritious meals for the girls. Kilkari is more than just a place for food and shelter for the girls, and meals are a special time for them to come together and bond. The older girls take turns serving lunch throughout the week and also help come up with the meal menu.
