NAB Centre for Blind Women and Disability Studies

NAB Centre for Blind Women and Disability Studies We are an NGO working for the empowerment and rehabilitation of blind women in India. But all thanks to the DONORS and our consistent Volunteers.

In the last twelve years, the NAB India Centre has supported directly more than 2500 blind women beneficiaries, with trainings, counselling, support to Higher Education, Employment towards becoming self-reliant with gainful careers and life support. The centre is proud to be the only one of its kind in India to hold hands of adult and young and late blind women to take them forward on a path of in

dependence. The Centre is almost a self-run institution by visually challenged girls themselves, handling every aspect of the institution in a transparent manner right from the reception to the kitchen. You will find in the centre, any day, the visually challenged women handling the calls, cooking, teaching, supervising and at the same time, getting trained for even more tasks. Our adventure trips for sports like paragliding, rafting and rock climbing are quite famous. The girls come to the centre from different States of the country like Bihar, Uttrakhand, M.P., U.P., Rajasthan, Haryana, H.P., Punjab, Jammu, Manipur, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and even from the neighbouring countries like Nepal. We have also been able to start a research wing as a part of our vision to get to the root of the problems and work on the actual issues.

Thank you ThePrint and Ms.Sakshi Mehra for this trusted ground report on how NAB India Centre for Blind Women and Disability Studies is turning from professional massage (Talking Hands ) to expert baking ( ) into dignified .

5 million visually impaired individuals in India are ready to work, we just need to open the doors.

Read how NAB India Centre For Blind Women is creating these vital opportunities and bringing the Japanese model of blind massage to India.

Taking a cue from Japan and China, NGOs are training blind masseurs and companies are hiring them. ‘I wanted to play to their capability, not on the sympathy card.’

We are proud to share that our Blind Bake Café (BBC), run entirely by visually impaired chefs, opened its 4th outlet at the TCS Thane campus, Mumbai in June 2025.

Every dish, every cookie, every cake is made with passion and skill, proving that true vision comes from within. The café not only serves delicious food but also nurtures dignified livelihoods and independence for professionals with visual disabilities.

A big thank you to TCS for opening its doors to the Blind Bake Café at multiple locations, supporting the vision of creating sustainable opportunities for persons with visual disabilities. The café not only celebrates what has been achieved but also opens up new opportunities and hope for many more trained visually impaired chefs in the future.

We are delighted that this story of inclusion and empowerment has been featured in the media, including Press Trust of India (PTI) and The Hindu

A book launch was held on 20th September at NAB India Centre, New Delhi for ‘Colours You Did Not See’ written by Ms. Dolly Nemii Mittal.

The book draws from her 17 years of experience and is a powerful collection of stories that offer deep insights, challenge perceptions, and highlight that disability is not a limitation, but another way of experiencing the world.

The event was graced by Professor Rao from IIT, Dr. Rao (former Director – DEPWD), Ms. Shalini Khanna (Director, NAB India Centre for Blind Women and Disability Studies), members of the Asia Pacific Network for Accessibility, representatives from Tagore International School and Laxman Public School, as well as our students.

It was a gathering full of reflections, conversations, and hope for a more inclusive tomorrow.

20 of our Visually Impaired girls had the honor of invitation by the Deep Striker Brigade of Indian Army jawans for a Rakshabandhan event at Delhi Cantonment. The VI girls had the honor of tying rakhi to them on the brave soldiers' wrists, and they felt an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude for their selfless service to our nation.

This visit, coming just days before day, reminded us of the sacrifices made for our freedom and the deep bonds that unite us as one nation.
