On 22 March, Harithkram observes World Water Day as a reminder of how essential water is to our everyday lives—something we rely on every day, often without thinking about it.

With increasing pollution and overuse, it’s important to be more mindful of how we use and conserve this precious resource. Even small, conscious efforts can make a real difference.

This year’s theme, “Water and Gender,” highlights the link between water access and equality.
In many communities, women and girls are responsible for collecting water, often at the cost of their time and opportunities. Ensuring equal access is a step towards dignity, empowerment, and inclusive growth.

Let’s value every drop and do our bit for a more sustainable and fair future.

On the occasion of the International Day of Forests, Harithkram chose to begin the day amidst the Aravalli forest of Tughlaqabad.

The visit was both educational and refreshing. Guided by Dr. Vivek, Scientist, Tughlaqabad Biodiversity Park along with Mr. Ankur, Nature Education Officer the entire park was explored while gaining valuable insights about the native and the invasive species and values of herbal plants. The walk helped students to build a clear understanding of how different plants impact the forest ecosystem and the value they hold in traditional knowledge.

The visit turned more than just a walk but a moment to to slow down, observe, learn and appreciate the natural world around us.

On 21 March, International Day of Forests, Harithkram celebrates the vital role forests play in sustaining life on Earth. The day renews our commitment to protect these rich ecosystems that support biodiversity, regulate our climate, and nurture the planet for generations to come.
Forests are more than landscapes, they are lifelines for communities, wildlife, and the balance of our planet. Protecting them today is essential for a greener and more sustainable tomorrow.

Harithkram celebrates World Sparrow Day to remind us about the small birds that we used to see every day around our homes.

Sparrows may be small, but they play a significant role as pollinator in ecosystems.

Today, sparrows are becoming less in number because of pollution, fewer trees, and lack of safe places to live. This shows that our environment needs more care and attention.

Let’s take small steps like planting trees, keeping water and grains for birds, and making our surroundings safe for them. Saving sparrows means protecting nature. 💚🐦

Rivers don’t just flow through landscapes but also civilisations, cultures and our very existence.
This International Day of Action for Rivers, Harithkram encourages everyone to pause and reflect on the lifelines that sustain our planet. When rivers are polluted, diverted or exploited, it’s not just water we lose, but the biodiversity, livelihoods and climate balance.
This year’s theme, Protect Rivers, Protect People, reminds us that safeguarding rivers entails safeguarding humanity.
Let’s raise our voices, take action and ensure that these lifelines continue to flow, today and for generations to come.

Harithkram and the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems successfully conducted an online session on World Wetlands Day on the focal theme “Wetlands & Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage,” with Dr. Bijaya Kumar Kabi, A grassroot conservationist and director of APOWA, Odisha, as the lead speaker.

Delving into the many facets of ecological significance of wetlands from their role in water purification, regulating floods, carbon sequestration or climate regulation to success stories of community-led restoration, Mr. Kabi illuminated, for the audience, how traditional knowledge emerges as a bridge to conservation and a resilient ecosystem and sustainable future.

We thank Dr. Bijaya Kumar Kabi for his great presence and all the participants in our World Wetlands Day talk!

On January 25, 2026, Team Harithkram undertook a nature trail in Aravali Biodiversity Park, Gurgaon under the able guidance of Dr. Aasha Sharma, the onsite Nature Education Officer.

At a time when the conservation of this region is a critical and fiercely-debated topic, we planned this visit to understand the beauty, inextricability, and ecological necessity of the Aravalis to our surroundings, ecosystem, and in fact, our very survival. Dr. Sharma walked us through the inspiring history of the land, explaining how a scarred mining site was painstakingly restored into the thriving forest we see today, solely due to the efforts of the ecological restoration practitioner, Vijay Dhasmana, and the NGO IAmGurgaon.

During the tour, Dr. Sharma introduced us to the native trees, plants, and animals that call this park home, highlighting the deep significance of each species in this ecosystem. It was an eye-opening experience that went beyond textbooks, reinforcing why these green spaces must be protected.

We are grateful to Dr. Aasha Sharma for her guidance and for helping us connect with the Aravalis in such a meaningful and memorable way.
