Mental health and emotional wellbeing are often spoken about in relation to the communities we work with. But sustaining social justice work also means making space for care, pause, honesty, and support within teams.

Welcome back to . Every Friday, we share reflections from our work, our team, and the everyday practices that shape care and justice in meaningful ways.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we asked members of the CSJ team:
“What is one way CSJ’s culture of care or self-care supports your mental and emotional health?”

From feeling safe and supported, to slowing down, resetting, and showing up more honestly at work, these reflections remind us that collective care is not separate from the work. It is part of what helps sustain it.

“On Our Radar” is our attempt to stay honest about the landscape we’re working in. The pieces that made us think harder about the work, the gaps, and occasionally, what’s actually moving.

This week we present four pieces on child welfare, systems change, and a policy process in Delhi that CSJ contributed to today. The kind of thing that rarely makes headlines but often shapes what comes next.

Many children entering the justice system are expected to navigate unfamiliar spaces and processes they do not fully understand.

Welcome back to CSJNyayNotes. Every Friday, we share reflections from our work with children and within child protection systems, looking at what justice for children means in practice.

In this video, Jova Rachel our Lead Social Worker speaks to Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy as part of their series Designing Justice, which builds on Vidhi’s Court Design Handbook: Design Guide for User-Centric District Courts in India.

Drawing from her experience supporting child survivors and families, she reflects on what trauma-informed care looks like in practice. The video explores the role of social workers in helping children and families navigate investigations, court processes, and testimony, while also preparing children emotionally for what to expect.

Despite the availability of child-friendly spaces like Vulnerable Witness Deposition Centres, many children continue to experience intimidating court environments, especially older children and children with special needs.

Through our work, we continue to see how communication, care, and infrastructure shape a child’s experience of justice.

Many children in courts are left trying to make sense of processes they were never prepared for.

Welcome back to . Every Friday, we share reflections from our work with children and within child protection systems, looking at what justice for children means in practice.

In this video, Arushi Anthwal, our Director, Legal Interventions, speaks to Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy as part of their series Designing Justice. The series builds on Vidhi’s Court Design Handbook: Design Guide for User-Centric District Courts in India, with a focus on making courts more accessible and user-centric.

Arushi reflects on how children experience the justice system. While some are supported by advocates or support persons, many navigate these spaces alone, often without clarity on what is happening or what comes next. Despite the availability of child-friendly spaces like Vulnerable Witness Deposition Centres, children are still brought into courtrooms, where much depends on individual practices and preferences.

Through our work with children on both sides of the law, we continue to see how deeply the physical environment shapes their experience. Infrastructure is not separate from justice. It is a core part of how children feel, respond, and engage with the process.

Is our justice system truly child-friendly?

We are sharing something very special with you today.

As you know, every Friday, we share stories, experiences, and reflections from our work with children and child protection systems. Through , we explore one simple but powerful question: what does justice for children really look like?

In this video, Sakshi from our Survivor Support team shares a moment from a counselling session.

In our work with children, we use expressive art and play therapy to help them find their voice—free from shame and judgment. These become their ways of communicating with the world. At Counsel to Secure Justice( CSJ) , we listen, understand, and respond with empathy, supporting each child as they grow into their authentic self.

Because justice for children also means creating spaces where they feel seen, heard, and accepted for who they are.

Access to justice isn’t just about laws—it’s about dignity, safety, and support at every step.
Our Executive Director, Ms. Nimisha Srivastava, joined a powerful Women’s Day panel with United Nations India, bringing voices from the field into a space that matters.
Because when survivors say, “If I had known this would happen, I would have never reported it,”—we need to listen, reflect, and rebuild systems that truly protect.

How do we talk to them about consent, autonomy, respect and how are we building accountability in them.
How do we shape the thinking of the men they will become tomorrow?
