A milestone for Consumers India! In August 2021, a statement we co-authored with The Society for Upliftment of Masses was published by the United Nations and circulated to all UN members. Our submission for the ECOSOC High-Level Segment offered suggestions for achieving UN SDG Goal 2—ending hunger and malnutrition. We highlighted how the growing popularity of high-sugar, high-fat, and high-salt junk food is a major cause of malnutrition, alongside poverty.

‘More women than men applying for DLs pledge to donate organs’-reported Times of India on National Organ Donation Day, ie on August 3, 2025. It was mentioned that women do not just constitute most living organ donors, they outnumber men when it comes to percentage of applicants for driving licence pledging to become deceased donors in case of fatal accidents. In 2024, 9.8% of women and 8.9% of men made such pledges. Delhi had the highest percentage of women pledging at 26.7%. Other states with high percentages of women pledging include Odisha (21.9%), Mizoram (21%), Maharashtra (20.9%), and Uttar Pradesh (16.8%). As per Notto, since Sept 2023, some 3.6 lakh people have pledged to donate organs. Consumers India had earlier appealed to Prime Minister to introduce some of the best international practices like ‘mandated choice’ to promote organ donation in India to save lives. This requires driver's license registrants to answer the question “Do you want to be an organ donor?”. The good news is that this pledge, introduced through an amendment to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules in 2018, allows individuals to express their consent for organ donation upon death, particularly after a road accident.

‘All hospitals should ban perfumes and other scented products’-say Canada's leading medical journal.
