On 3 January, 2026 4B Foundation marked the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, a pioneering figure in India’s feminist and educational legacy. Savitribai Phule’s life and work powerfully underscored the necessity of education being accessible to all, irrespective of caste or gender. Along with Jyotiba Phule, she played a transformative role in extending education to children who had long been excluded from formal learning spaces.
The occasion was observed through a collective reflection on why it is important to remember and celebrate such figures today. The Founder of 4B Foundation, Ms Sunita Chouhan, spoke about Savitribai Phule’s historical significance and her continued relevance in our everyday struggles for equity and justice.
This was followed by a simple yet meaningful tribute, with each child offering flowers to Savitribai Phule’s portrait. A creative activity was then organised where children were asked to draw what the word *education* meant to them. The discussion that followed revealed thoughtful and diverse interpretations- ranging from a desire to learn languages better, to finding joy in sports alongside studies, and an interest in understanding the past through classroom learning.
To further emphasise the value of commitment to education, Siddharth, a young volunteer at 4B Foundation, was felicitated for his consistent dedication to tutoring children free of cost after school hours.
The day served as a reminder that education is not only about access, but also about care, community, and sustained effort.
