Continuing our efforts to strengthen access to justice by capacitating advocates on the SC/ST (PoA) Act - building justice from the ground up.

On 29 March 2026, NDMJ’s Odisha State Advocates Training brought together legal practitioners to deepen engagement with Special Courts under the SC/ST (PoA) Act and POCSO. Through shared experiences, strategic discussions, and skill-building, advocates are better equipped to challenge caste-based atrocities and ensure effective prosecution.

Continuing our Dalit History Month engagements, on 29 March 2026, a State-Level Women’s Justice Assembly was organised in Motihari - Bihar, bringing together women, especially from Dalit and marginalized communities to raise their voices against caste- and gender-based violence.

The assembly created a critical platform to highlight the growing incidence of atrocities, share lived experiences, and reflect on the systemic challenges in accessing justice. Speakers and participants emphasized the urgent need for stronger institutional accountability, timely legal action, and sustained support for survivors.

Such collective spaces are vital in strengthening women’s leadership, building solidarity, and advancing the ongoing struggle for dignity, equality, and justice.

As we observe Dalit History Month, we remember Jyotiba Phule - a pioneering social reformer who fearlessly challenged caste oppression, untouchability, and gender inequality, and championed education as a tool for liberation.

His vision continues to inspire the work of NCDHR - NDMJ, as we engage with communities across states to strengthen access to justice, build awareness of rights, and support survivor-led collectives in resisting caste-based discrimination. Through sustained grassroots efforts, we carry forward his legacy of dignity, equality, and collective empowerment.

Next Generation Leading the Way ✊🏽

At the State Level Dalit Women Justice Assembly in Himachal Pradesh (22 March 2026), one of the most inspiring moments came from the next generation of the movement.

The program began with a warm and powerful welcome by young Dalit activist Ms.Deepika Mahey, reminding everyone that the struggle for dignity, justice, and equality is being carried forward by our children as well. Her presence symbolized how the values of courage, resistance, and leadership are being nurtured in the next generation.

The Assembly then moved into a series of important sessions led by activists, advocates, and community leaders who discussed access to justice, women’s rights, land rights, and leadership of Dalit women in governance and society.

Together, the gathering reaffirmed a collective commitment to strengthen Dalit women’s voices, ensure accountability, and build a future where justice and dignity are non-negotiable.

✨ The movement continues - and the next generation is already leading it.

As part of our continued engagement with communities, NDMJ - NCDHR organised a Survivor Collective hearing with the State SC Commission in Himachal Pradesh on 9th March 2026.

Dalit survivors from Una, Solan, and Hamirpur brought forward 17 cases of caste discrimination, violence, land disputes, and denial of basic rights. The hearing provided a critical platform for survivors to directly share their experiences and demand accountability from institutions responsible for ensuring justice.

Strengthening survivor collectives and creating such spaces remains central to our efforts for dignity, justice, and equality.

As we begin Dalit History Month, we look back at our recent journey across states sharing moments of collective effort to capacitate communities to stand tall against injustice. Stay with us as we revisit these engagements over the coming days.

To begin with, as Babasaheb B. R. Ambedkar said, “I measure the progress of a community by the degree of progress which women have achieved.”

Taking inspiration from this vision, NDMJ–NCDHR organised the State Level Women’s Justice Assembly. The objective of the event was to understand the challenges and realities faced by Dalit women in accessing justice, capacitate them on their rights, and initiate the formation of district-level Dalit women’s groups to strengthen collective action and leadership.
