CREESS

CREESS We are a research & advocacy group for ecology, environment, & sustainability. We support students and scholars in capacity building.

We advise industries, administrative bodies, & decision makers in environmental assessments & strategic thinking. Welcome to a research network in quest of finding answers for 'big question' of sustainable development. We are a think tank aspiring to contribute through our cutting edge research work in the field of ecology, environment, and sustainability. We want to establish ourselves as an advo

cacy group which can influence decision makers to incorporate sustainability in their decisions. Founded in 2014 CREESS explores areas such as environmental management, human ecology, industrial ecology, environmental ethics, traditional knowledge, and cultural ecology. We are in the field of dance ecology, folklore, and artforms with reference to its connections with traditional technology & wisdom, conservation of natural resources, and sustainability. We work with 'Baiga' community in MP and Chattisgarh and 'Kaibartya' fishing community in Assam. We are associated with other national level cultural research organisations too. We provide consultany to industries in the areas of EIA, SIA, CIA and preparation of EMP, in oil and gas exploration/production, and hydroelectric power projects in India. We have worked with Oil and Gas industries in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Myanmar and Coal bed methane (CBM) blocks in Madhya pradesh. We also advise in the field of spatial planning with reference to sustainable urban development, urban metabolism, ecological footprint analysis, and developing framework for strategic environmental assessment for flood. Our special focus is on north eastern states of India and its overall sustainable development.

Dear Friends Greetings,
The newly redesigned website of the Centre for Research in Ecology, Environment, and Sustainability Science (CREESS) creess.org — offers a clearer reflection of the Centre’s ecological ethos and its growing commitment to place-based, community-rooted research. Grounded in the understanding that environmental resilience emerges through sustained relationships between people and ecosystems, CREESS advances interdisciplinary inquiry that weaves ecological science with lived experience and cultural practice.

Among its diverse initiatives, the Human-Dolphin Coexistence Project exemplifies this approach—bringing together field ecology, traditional knowledge, and community engagement to study and support harmonious interactions between human settlements and cetacean populations. Through such work, CREESS continues to cultivate grounded, socially attuned ecological research that contributes to both local stewardship and broader sustainability science.
