It gives us great pleasure to invite you to our World Heritage Week celebrations Gaja Lok, from 19 to 25 November at INTACH Multipurpose Hall, 71 Lodhi Estate, New Delhi, at 4.00 pm.

Gaja Lok explores the enduring and evolving relationship between humans and the Asian elephant. Rooted in cultural memory and ecological reality, it weaves together historical, cultural, spiritual and environmental narratives, spanning centuries and connecting India with Southeast Asia in a shared tradition of coexistence.

In a curated series of lectures, we will explore the intersection of cultural, environmental and historical narratives of man-elephant interconnectedness. What did the Arthashastra have to say about elephants? How did the Mughals use this animal as gifts and in battle? What was the British colonial encounter with the animal like? The journeys of Indian elephants beyond the subcontinent.

We are privileged to have some of the leading experts on the subject exploring Gaja Lok with us. We invite you to come and join the exploration with us.

The lectures will be live streamed - link in bio

All are welcome!

Over the years, IHA has explored the pivotal role museums play in the protection, preservation, and interpretation of cultural heritage. Through our research and courses, we delve into how museums shape our understanding of the past and inspire future generations.

On the International Day of Families we mark the importance of knowing the history and heritage of families. Families shape the individual and are significant carriers of personal heritage. IHA has actively promoted the preservation of family heritage through courses like 'Documenting Family Histories' conducted in March 2025.
The image above is by one of the participants of the course Ms. Alakta Kar who shared this image of her grandparents with their car; a car that helped the family stay safe during the Assam-Tibet Earthquake of 1950 and whose body her grandfather had built on a pre-existing World War II era chassis.

INTACH Heritage Academy hosted “Introduction to Heritage Documentation” workshop today for students from Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia.

It began with a welcome by Ms. Purnima Datt (Principal Director, HECS, INTACH), followed by “What is Heritage?” with Dr. Parul Munjal (Director, IHA). Ms. Tavishi Gautam (IHA) then led “Documenting Heritage”, followed by a quick tea break and a deep dive into “Mapping Interconnections” with Dr. Munjal once again.

We wrapped up with a session on Heritage Awards by Ms. Gautam, certificate distribution, and a hearty lunch.
