Restoring Safety and Dignity!

A few days back , Open Arms, in collaboration with the Robinhood Army, Silchar, led the reconstruction of a family's home in Dholai, Assam. Relentless rainfall had left the house in a deplorable state, urgently demanding repair.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the dedicated volunteers of the Robinhood Army, Silchar, and to our generous sponsors. Their collective efforts have not only rebuilt a house but have profoundly restored the safety and dignity of a family. 🙏🏻❤️

GATI: Empowering the Differently Abled | Beneficiaries #595–599

Dear friends,

An inclusive society can only be built if we remain sensitive to the needs of those who are marginalized. Instead of alienating them, our efforts should always focus on bringing them into the mainstream through empowerment. People with disabilities still face social stigma and immense daily challenges across India. Through GATI and Open Arms, we strive to help them lead better, more independent lives, though we know there is still a long way to go.

Over the past few years, our work in West Bengal has focused on supporting individuals with hearing impairment. The demand for hearing aids among underprivileged communities is immense, but because these devices are expensive, they remain out of reach for many.

We are working to bridge this gap. Recently, we provided hearing aids ( 5 pairs) to 5 underprivileged children suffering from significant hearing loss, restoring their ability to hear. Below are a few videos showing the transformative difference a hearing aid can make.

Through the GATI initiative, we have now empowered 599 individuals with essential assistive devices, including wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aids, walking sticks, walkers, and crutches.

GATI: Empowering the Differently Abled: Beneficiary #593-594

Aging with a disability can be extremely challenging, and the absence of mobility support can significantly impact one's quality of life. Recently, we came across two women in West Bengal who were struggling to cope with permanent disabilities and limited mobility.

GATI: Empowering the Differently Abled: Beneficiary #585-592

The state of West Bengal has a significant proportion of underprivileged individuals suffering from hearing disorders. Due to their limited financial resources, many are unable to afford hearing aids, which are expensive devices, and thus are forced to live with this disability for a substantial part of their lives.

Through this initiative, we have been able to provide some relief over the past couple of years and have observed a significant difference in the lives of individuals after they have received hearing aids.

In the last one month, we have sponsored hearing aids for eight additional individuals in West Bengal, all of whom come from extremely marginalized backgrounds. We extend our deepest gratitude to all our sponsors for their support in making a positive impact.

GATI: Empowering the Differently Abled: Beneficiary #583 & 584

In a remote village in Assam, we came across two children who were born with disabilities and required wheelchairs. Due to the lack of mobility aids, their parents had to carry them, which was becoming increasingly difficult as the children grew older.

Considering the family's financial circumstances, Open Arms sponsored two wheelchairs to improve the lives of these children and their parents. Their father was immensely happy & expressed his heartfelt gratitude upon receiving the wheelchairs.

We are deeply grateful to all kind-hearted individuals who have come forward to support a family in need.

SAKSHAM: Empowering Through Education

Dear friends, providing quality education to the underprivileged is a core objective of Open Arms, as we strongly believe that education is the foundation of empowerment and prosperity. Without education, our society is unable to advance, and we risk getting trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty and unemployment.

Since launching this initiative, we have supported numerous students who were struggling financially and at risk of discontinuing their education. It is highly rewarding to see the students performing well academically. We are pleased to share the final examination marksheets of our students who we have been sponsoring for many years and would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to our sponsors for their ongoing support in enabling these students to have a brighter future.

GATI: Empowering the Differently Abled: Beneficiary #578-582

A substantial percentage of India's population is affected by hearing and speech impairments. Unfortunately, the high cost of hearing devices or aids makes them unaffordable for the underprivileged. We are working to address this disparity by providing hearing aids to those in need.

We recently came across five underprivileged children in West Bengal who were struggling with significant hearing and speech impairments. Their audiometry reports indicated a loss of up to 85% of their hearing capabilities. However, after receiving these aids, their hearing and speech have improved substantially. We thank all our sponsors for making a significant difference to the lives of these children 🙏🏻❤️

SAKSHAM: Empowering Through Education

Since our inception, education has been our primary focus, as it is the foundation upon which a progressive and empowered society is built.

Over the last 12 months, we have sponsored laptops for many underprivileged students, enabling them to manage their academic responsibilities efficiently. In today's digital landscape, a laptop is an essential tool. Although our financial capacity is limited, we strive to support students who demonstrate a genuine commitment to their studies.

Recently, Shivani Pandey, a Class 8 student, received a new laptop. Despite facing significant personal challenges due to her father's health condition, she has consistently done well in academics. Her father is currently undergoing treatment and is partially blind. We wish him a speedy recovery 🙏🏻
