GATI: Empowering the Differently Abled: Beneficiary #578-582

A substantial percentage of India's population is affected by hearing and speech impairments. Unfortunately, the high cost of hearing devices or aids makes them unaffordable for the underprivileged. We are working to address this disparity by providing hearing aids to those in need.

We recently came across five underprivileged children in West Bengal who were struggling with significant hearing and speech impairments. Their audiometry reports indicated a loss of up to 85% of their hearing capabilities. However, after receiving these aids, their hearing and speech have improved substantially. We thank all our sponsors for making a significant difference to the lives of these children 🙏🏻❤️

SAKSHAM: Empowering Through Education

We came across a very good student named Diya Sikdar in West Bengal. Diya has completed BSC Nursing and is now preparing for MSC Nursing. In the digital age, where everything is online , the potential of such meritorious students get suppressed without digital devices such as laptops or computers. She comes from a very financially constrained background which has made access to a laptop all the more difficult for her.

Considering her background and potential, Open Arms sponsored a laptop for her a few days back. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours. Our heartfelt gratitude to all kind souls who came forward and contributed 🙏🏻🤎

Mobility aids are not a luxury but a necessity for persons with disabilities but unfortunately due to multi factorial reasons only 1 on 10 people in India has access to such aids. Aids such as tricycles not only mobilise persons with disabilities but also empower them to earn a livelihood which goes a long way in improving the quality of life

A few days back , a tricycle was handed over to a resident of West Bengal named Paresh Sarkar. He is disabled with both legs . He was badly in need of a mobility aid as he needs to travel for personal and family work. Hopefully, this tricycle will help him in making his life a lot easier .

SAKSHAM: Empowering Through Education

Since our inception, education has been our primary focus, as it is the foundation upon which a progressive and empowered society is built.

Over the last 12 months, we have sponsored laptops for many underprivileged students, enabling them to manage their academic responsibilities efficiently. In today's digital landscape, a laptop is an essential tool. Although our financial capacity is limited, we strive to support students who demonstrate a genuine commitment to their studies.

Recently, Shivani Pandey, a Class 8 student, received a new laptop. Despite facing significant personal challenges due to her father's health condition, she has consistently done well in academics. Her father is currently undergoing treatment and is partially blind. We wish him a speedy recovery 🙏🏻

Approximately 63 million people in India suffer from significant auditory impairment and require hearing aids or intervention, according to World Health Organization (WHO) estimates. Other estimates suggest the number of individuals with hearing loss could exceed 80 million, with a 6.3% prevalence rate across the population.

Despite the high need, many people do not seek help due to social stigma, lack of awareness, or financial constraints. We at Open Arms, started this initiative of providing hearing aids in order to bridge this gap.

As of today, we have been successfully in providing hearing aids to many children and the elderly in the remote areas of West Bengal. Recently, we provided such aids to 11 more people ( 1 elderly woman & 10 children) .

Dear friends, Mr. Thakuramoni Das, a resident of Assam, who was referred to us by Robinhood Army, Silchar. Mr. Das suffers from a permanent disability and his existing wheelchair had become dysfunctional, severely hindering his daily activities.
