Delhi’s rising temperatures—crossing 40°C for consecutive days—are reshaping everyday life for children. Extreme heat affects how they learn, rest, play, and stay healthy. What was once seasonal is now a shared urban priority that demands collective action.

Through ChildFund’s campaign ‘Cooler Cities. Healthier Children. Brighter Futures’, we are drawing attention to how extreme heat impacts children—while spotlighting practical solutions, adaptation approaches, and pathways for smart investment. Children cannot adapt to extreme heat on their own. With thoughtful planning, responsive systems, and engaged communities, our cities can evolve to meet their needs.

As part of this campaign, ChildFund is inviting applications from creatives and media professionals based in New Delhi to participate in a fellowship that centres children’s lived experiences. Selected fellows will create stories that elevate children’s voices and advance conversations on climate‑resilient cities.

Together, we can help build cooler, safer cities where children can thrive.

Strengthening online safety for children requires schools, systems, and families to work together.

As part of its ongoing programme, ChildFund India, in collaboration with the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, is supporting education systems in Odisha to integrate online safety into schools.

We brought together District Education Officers from 30 districts to strengthen schools to better support students’ digital wellbeing. Through cascade trainings, the effort will move to districts, where Block Education Officers, Cluster Resource Centres, and teachers will take these learnings into classrooms across government schools, reaching around 75,000 children.

The School Management Committees and parent-teacher meetings will carry these conversations into homes, helping caregivers better support children online.

Together, this approach connects schools, systems, and families, so children are better supported to learn, explore, and stay safe online, at school and at home.

Rising temperatures bring increased health risks for children and communities.

To address this, ChildFund India’s ‘Heat and Health’ Project has been launched in Bhubaneshwar. The pilot will work across 20 neighbourhoods, strengthening youth collectives to lead community-level action. They will develop a heat resilience plan for their communities, raise awareness, and put practical solutions in place, including cooling centres at schools to ensure children continue learning.

The initiative will also strengthen linkages with local health services, ensuring that families are better connected to care and support.

Working closely with Department of Health & Family Welfare, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, National Health Mission and the Education department, this youth-led community approach, supported by systems, will build lasting resilience and response to climate risks so children can stay safe, healthy, and supported.

What can AI do for you?

At a recent workshop, 33 Udaan fellows of ChildFund India spent a day exploring this question.

For many, it was their first time using AI. The workshop was designed not just to explain AI, but to help them use it effectively and safely as part of their digital skills.

Through hands-on practice, participants explored how to apply AI in everyday contexts and use it to support their learning and skill-building.

By the end of the day, they were using the tools with confidence and a clearer understanding of how to use them responsibly.

More importantly, they strengthened their ability to learn independently, adapt to new tools, and engage with a rapidly evolving digital world.

We asked a few children what they want to be when they are older.

A police officer who stops crime.
An IAS officer who serves the country.
Someone who wants to support people facing hardship.

Just honest intentions to make things better for others. Let us match that intent with opportunity.

In Chinchechiwadi, Maharashtra, water scarcity in the summer disrupted daily life for the villagers. A water harvesting storage capacity of just 3 lakh litres was not enough to meet the village’s needs during the summer months.

To address this, the community, along with the Gram Panchayat Devale and ChildFund India, increased the storage capacity to 12 lakh litres, enough to sustain the village through the most critical period.

This means there is less dependence on external water sources and reduced daily strain on families. For children, it means more stable routines, with greater continuity in learning, play, and rest.

This is what local action for climate resilience looks like, solutions built by communities, for communities.

Children don’t just use the internet, they live it and they understand it.

At the Kids and Family Safety Capacity Building Workshop at Google, Mumbai, children from ChildFund India’s program used skit to share their real life experiences in the digital spaces reflecting the risks they face and reinforcing the urgency in co-creating solutions.

Building safer digital spaces must be informed by children’s online realities, shaped through their participation, and strengthened through shared responsibility.
