Kutumb is developing comics-based programming as part of the Desibel project, supported by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the French Institute in India. As part of the initiative, each library will receive training support to set up a dedicated comics and graphic novels section in their library, comprising approximately 100 titles in regional languages. Participating libraries receive support to conduct reading and drama-based activities designed to create meaningful engagement around comics. These activities aim to strengthen community engagement with the library while fostering a reading culture in each region. Kutumb is working with Free Libraries Network - FLN as the knowledge partner for this project.

Here's some comic-based read alouds and activities we conducted at Qissagadh Active Library this month as part of the Decibel project. On Women's Day, we conducted a read aloud and drawing-based story creation activity using the graphic novel Reva (Author: Prabhat, Illustrator: Priyankar Gupta). Through the story of a young girl struggling to find her own safe space in the world, library members and their family members explored the struggles of the women in their own lives, and celebrated their triumphs. We also organised a film screening and read aloud of a graphic novel version of Premchand's Eidgah. Every day library members are engaging with comics at our Comics Corner.

Kutumb is developing comics-based programming as part of the Desibel project, supported by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (French Embassy in India / Ambassade de France en Inde ) and the French Institute in India. Here's some feedback from a recent residential workshop. Over 20 community librarians participated, from libraries across India. The training focused on developing comic specific read aloud strategies, and on exploring drama tools that librarians can use in their libraries.
Kutumb is working with Free Libraries Network - FLN as the knowledge partner for this project.
