I don't know how many of you have seen this underrated film Party (1984). This film was part of the parallel cinema movies starring the lbikes of Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Amrish Puri etc. Party is a National award winning film which won the National Award for Best Supporting Actress for Rohini Hattangadi. The whole film takes place in a party and exposes the double standards of the Indian aristocratic class and how far they are from the reality of common people of India.

But despite all this praise and despite the film being a compelling piece of cinema this film has a major shortcoming- it's politics. It aligns openly with the Marxist and subaltern discourses and therefore after a point you can see through the intentions of the maker to project and promote a particular idea and ideology. The film is quote unbalanced in its approach with the discussion clearly diverted to one direction. Particularly there is a scene in the film where the character discuss whether a piece of art is relevant if it is not politically committed. And this scene is where my contention lies with the film as not only the film tries to support art as a tool for political mobilisation but also advocates for the inclusion of political organisation as the means to do it making the art as a tool of propaganda for the political organisation.

There are certain films and makers who make compelling cinema but as much as you love those movies for their immaculate artistic merit you can't agree with a lot of things that those movies are trying to say.

The basic premise of this article is that most of the information on cinema that you find on social media and internet is incorrect. Even though cinema is heartbeat of our cultural identity, it has not received adequate attention as means of cinematic analysis or overview, leading to lack to transparency in understanding the data related to cinema. Every tracker every magazine every portal choose its own sources and at times blatantly copies from Wikipedia and IMDb which is completely unreliable for in depth information on cinema. The result is that what we get is scattered, unreliable, uncorroborated information on cinema. Even the big journalists writing books and articles on cinema make basis mistakes in cinema writing and thus there is a need of dedicated groups and journals dealing with research on cinema in intensive and extensive way.

Read any magazine, go to internet, or social media, more than half of the content belongs to the entertainment sector.
