On 16 June 2026, in compliance with an official directive received by the Delhi Police at Nanakpura, New Delhi, a special workshop on child welfare legislation was conducted in the Conference Hall of the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC). The session was led by Advocate Ramya Verma, State Director of the NCIB Delhi Unit.
The workshop was organized for district-level Child Welfare Police Officers (CWPOs) and SPUWAC Investigating Officers with the objective of strengthening the legal and procedural framework relating to child protection in India. It also served as a platform to discuss practical challenges encountered during investigation, rescue, rehabilitation, and prosecution in cases involving children.
Detailed deliberations were held on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, laws relating to the prohibition of child marriage, and child labour legislation. The session further highlighted key statutory provisions, procedural safeguards, mandatory reporting obligations, victim-centric approaches, inter-agency coordination mechanisms, and significant recent judicial pronouncements relevant to child protection.
The interactive workshop provided police officers with an opportunity to share their field experiences and engage in meaningful discussions on addressing practical and procedural challenges in the effective implementation of child protection laws. The deliberations contributed to enhancing participants’ understanding of the legal framework and promoting its consistent and effective enforcement in the interest of safeguarding children’s rights and welfare.
