"It feels like walking in an animated render; everything looks so perfect - Student, JSAA

Today, 250 meters of Happiness transformed into a classroom for students from Jindal School of Art and Architecture (.jgu) () as part of Arch Elective Atelier - Physical Mobility, led by Prof. Alokeparna Sengupta ()

The 90min walk led by Ruchi Varma (), CEO, HumanQind covered how does compassion x equity paved a unique cocreation approach, how are safe streets executed with government stakeholders and how community happiness sustains beyond implementation. The lessons from 'India's first school zone designed by India's young' at DAV Vasant Kunj in Delhi, goes beyond street infrastructure; it creates a possibility for a role designers could take to cultivate interconnnected futures.

5 years could be many things... a fixed deposit, a technical degree, an election term, a PhD or even time for kindergarten. For the latter, at this developmental stage, the human child should be able to express themselves better, retell stories, form sentences, get up to date with all immunizations, eat more, expand horizons, sleep more, be socially interactive, communicate and learn how to negotiate. The sky is the limit for what a child could learn at this stage and better if done with love and play.

HumanQind turns 5.
Like an infant, we entered the world without knowing what path we would walk and what all we could receive. Yet we found a home, a family and a neighborhood where we received so much love and care. With committed partners, advisors, co-travellers, their unconditional love and value-led collaborations, we have been able to break barriers. In this journey, we discovered our abilities…
❤️ Our ability to work with the magic of children, not ‘coz they are future leaders, future workforce, future learners but humans, people and friends today.
🔥 Our ability to see a caregiver in everyone and every system.
⏳ Our ability to repair & redesign systems through design and innovation.
🫂 Our ability to learn from wisdom of communities and their lived experiences.
😊 Our ability to gift a global first to the world.
👏 Our ability to imagine a HumanQind.

In the last 5 years, we have been led by bold visions and an unwavering grit to reimagine power, agency and leadership with compassion.
At 5, we are excited to meet the world, share and retell stories, build and grow together and continue to share laughter and happiness... alongwith children!

Our Why?

Picture the everyday life of a child, going to school, for play and family time; all is happening within unsafe, unhealthy, contested spaces. According to WHO, road accidents are the major cause of deaths between ages 5-14. Children are experiencing a suppression of healthy thoughts and actions in urban ‘public’ spaces and their voices are constantly diminishing and being ignored. Even with more than one-third of the population under 18, children are denied their rights to be equal and grow up with a dignified life.

HumanQind gives children the agency and voice to design and humanize their everyday settings.

Starting with schools through ‘Crosswalk’, our flagship program, children define their needs through design thinking workshops and co-create an innovative blueprint of a safe and democratized access to their schools, regardless of ethnic origin, religion, income, gender or disability. Throughout the process, Crosswalk supports young emerging leadership and change agents that trigger urban innovations in neighborhoods and create a lasting impact in the communities.
