Healing Takes More Than One Surgery.

For Zaffar Khan, a 57-year-old acid attack survivor from Delhi, the journey of healing continues decades after the attack he survived in 1998.

Recently, He underwent multiple procedures, including microstomia release with commissuroplasty, left ear contracture release, and split-thickness skin grafting to improve his mouth opening and address the contracture affecting his left ear.

Behind every surgery is a person seeking comfort, dignity, and a better quality of life.

At Brave Souls Foundation, we continue to stand with survivors, not just through their immediate recovery, but throughout their long-term journey towards rehabilitation and healing.

She was asleep beside her daughter when acid was thrown through their window. The attack wasn't even meant for her, but in a single moment, she lost her eyesight and everything she had known.

Thirteen years later, she continues to live with pain, poverty, and the lifelong consequences of that night. Yet she refuses to give up.

Supported by her husband and driven by the hope of giving her children a better future, she continues to move forward with extraordinary strength.

This is not just a story of survival. It is a story of love, resilience, and the urgent need for justice and support for acid attack survivors.

Brave Souls Foundation (BSF-India) works with acid attack survivors by providing legal aid, rehabilitation, shelter, education, livelihood support, and advocacy for systemic change.

Under the CSR initiative of Dorf Ketal Chemicals India Ltd., Brave Souls Foundation conducted an Awareness Programme at Pehchan Education Center, Jaitpur, New Delhi, bringing together 80 participants, including men, women and girls, local leaders, senior citizens, and media representatives, for meaningful discussions on acid attacks, gender-based violence, personal safety, and legal rights.

The session featured:
• Shabnam sharing her journey as an acid attack survivor
• Legal awareness on rights, reporting violence, and accessing justice
• Interactive discussions that encouraged participants to recognize, prevent, and respond to gender-based violence while supporting survivors with empathy and dignity.

Awareness creates informed communities. Together, we can challenge violence, strengthen support systems, and build a safer and more inclusive society.

The Body As Witness was more than an exhibition, it was a space where stories, resilience, and art came together.

We are grateful to artist Monica Dhaka and the team at NIV Art Centre & Film Studios for creating a platform that brought the lived experiences of acid attack survivors into meaningful dialogue with audiences.

Our survivors had the opportunity to share their journeys of resilience, strength, and hope, reminding everyone that behind every scar is a life, a voice, and an unwavering spirit. Their participation transformed the exhibition into a space for reflection, empathy, and conversations that truly matter.

At Brave Souls Foundation, we believe that visibility leads to understanding, and understanding creates change. We are honoured to have been part of this powerful initiative.

15 years. One fight for justice. No conviction.

MP Sanjay Singh raised the case of acid attack survivor and Brave Souls Foundation Director Shaheen Malik in Parliament, questioning the effectiveness of fast-track courts when survivors are forced to wait years, only to see justice denied.

Acid attack survivors deserve more than promises. They deserve timely justice, accountability, and a system that stands with them.

Sapna from Kotakpora, Punjab survived an acid attack. But the deepest wound wasn't only the scars.

After losing her husband, she says her father-in-law began harassing her. When she refused him, he allegedly attacked her with acid, leaving her blind and changing her life forever.

While she was fighting to survive in the hospital, her three children were taken away from her. Since then, she says she has not been allowed to see or even speak to them.

In this deeply personal documentary, she shares her journey of survival, the pain of being separated from her children, and the hope that one day she will see them again.

"I don't know if my children know what happened to their mother."
This film is not only about an acid attack. It is about motherhood, justice, and the strength to keep going despite unimaginable loss.
