Shabnam Khatun was still a child when an acid attack changed her life forever. The attack left her with severe burns across her face and body, and she completely lost vision in her left eye. Since then, her journey has been filled with surgeries, pain, and long periods of recovery that no child should ever have to endure.

Now staying at Apna Ghar, Delhi, Brave Souls Foundation's shelter home. Shabnam recently underwent another critical reconstructive surgery at BLK Max Hospital, a left upper eyelid ectropion correction with skin grafting. While the surgery marks an important step in her recovery, her treatment is far from over. She continues to need medical care, medicines, and long-term support.

Behind every surgery is a young girl still fighting to reclaim her childhood, her confidence, and her future.

Turning Awareness into Accountability

At Dyal Singh Evening College, a critical conversation on gender-based violence brought lived experiences to the forefront. Led by Programme Officer Bazla Khan and BSF-India’s National Coordinator Reshma Qureshi, the session challenged silence, stigma, and everyday complicity.

By centering survivor voices, the dialogue urged students to move beyond awareness question harmful norms, recognise accountability, and take a stand in their own spaces. Change begins when we refuse to normalise violence.

He tried to break her twice… but Deepmala chose to rise every single day.

“I returned home after two years… and was attacked again.”
Some wounds are visible, some run deeper into trust, safety, and the idea of home itself.

This is not just survival.
This is courage that rebuilds itself, again and again.

Stand with survivors. Listen to their stories. Be part of a world where this never happens.

They don’t need words; their strength speaks for each other.
Together, they remind the world that healing is stronger when shared.
Not just friends, but reflections of courage in one another.

Survivors don’t just heal, they rewrite their story with courage.
Every scar they carry is proof that they chose to keep going.

They are not defined by what happened, but by how they rise beyond it.

In collaboration with Dr. Kalra and his clinic, we’ve been able to support more than 50 survivors through different treatments.

Grateful for the trust, the strength of these survivors, and the people who continue to stand with them.
