Engaging Young Minds in Research and Strategic Thought 🧠🎓💡 As a part of their larger 2 month-long immersive internship program, The United Service Institution of India (USI) recently conducted an interactive session for interns attached to the Institution, introducing them to the work of the Centre for Publications and Library (CP&L). 📖✍️✏️👀 The session provided an overview of USI's rich legacy in strategic scholarship, its publications, essay competitions, and introduced the interns to one of India's finest repositories of defence and strategic studies literature housed at the USI library. Interns were also introduced to the fundamentals of academic writing, research methodology, literature review, thesis development, the Hourglass Model of academic writing, and common pitfalls in scholarly work. 🧑‍🎓💼📈 At USI, we remain committed to nurturing the next generation of researchers, analysts, and thought leaders who will contribute to informed public discourse and national security scholarship.

The United Service Institution of India invites entries for the USI–Lt Gen PS Bhagat Memorial Essay Competition 2026 on the theme:
"Military Leadership Challenges in the Artificial Intelligence World"
As Artificial Intelligence transforms warfare, decision-making, and command structures, the competition seeks to encourage original research, critical analysis, and informed debate on the future of military leadership in an AI-driven battlespace.
👥 Open to: Military personnel, civil servants, scholars, researchers, academicians, students, and NCC Senior Division cadets.

On 26 May 2026, USI-Centre for Emerging Technologies for Atma
Nirbhar Bharat(CETANB), conducted a Round Table Discussion(RTD)
on “Strategic Engagement, Coordination, and Challenges”, with
members of Defence Training Establishments, Think Tanks & Academia.
Maj Gen Sanjeev Choudhary(Retd.), Director, Centre for Publication and
Learning(CP&L), USI set the stage for the deliberations. Dr. Raul V.
Rodriguez, Vice President, Woxsen University delivered a talk on
foundations of strategic coordination, and emotional and cognitive
drivers in geopolitics, using relevant case analyses. The talk was
followed by a small discussion and Q&A session. On behalf of DG USI
and Dir CETANB, the session was brought to a close with final remarks
by Brig Vivek Verma, PhD(Retd.), SRF, USI-CETANB.
Key issues deliberated were:
● Structural and cognitive prerequisites for effective coordination
under uncertainty is need to be identified and prioritised
● Role of identity, narratives, and perception management crucial in
shaping strategic behaviour
● Conflict escalation, alliance stability, and deterrence credibility
need to be seen through the prism of emotional and cognitive
drivers.
● Coordination breakdowns in contemporary geopolitical contexts
need deeper examination through identification of early warning
signs of systemic misalignment
● Observed strategic patterns need to be translated into simulation
frameworks for scenario planning and wargaming
