Bishnah ....and hundreds of other villages and towns of Jammu province...where they are still the richest people controlling the major portion of economy of the state. The migrated ones are still the top most proud community of Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Batala, Sujanpur, Dinanagar, Amritsar and many towns and villages like Taragarh & Dorangla where they control the entire business.,. Many of them shifted to Chamba, Dalhousie, Nurpur, Kangra and Nagrota Baguaan. Thousands of Mahajans live in Chandigarh TRI CITY and Delhi Area ...and many metro cities of India. Mahajans of Jammu and Punjab were landlords, traders and business men who were highly respected and had a major influence in their society. They were always considered to be of a high caste and therefore given the name Mahajan. These Mahajans were economically and socially powerful people. Many of them are still engaged in money lending. They are the top most Doctors & Engineers, Judges & Advocates, Professors and top most Educationalists, Businessmen & Industrialists, Bankers & Property Wale Promoters and top Army Officers. The Mahajan children top almost every examination and hold the top most posts of the nation. SO BE PROUD TO BE A MEMBER OF THIS GREAT COMMUNITY....THE MAHAJANS.....

Mahajans have many sub castes such as ..jandial...Lammey, Lammey Rarotrey, Phagetra,Vaid,Bhagwathiye, Langars, Rarotra, Fave(Phave), Padotra, Mahotra, Kubre, Beotra, Gadhede, Chunne, Manath, Kankaal, Khadyals and Kanghal. Many individuals of these sub castes gather at their respective religious centres called JATHERE. Each sub caste believes in its own deity, known as devte. Mahajans created temples at these centres. These temples being located in many locations such as Dinanagar, Taragarh, Batala in Punjab to Sidh Sawankha, Arnia & Charnia, Samba and many more in Jammu Area . This gathering is called The Mail of Mahajans. These Mails are usually organised once or twice a year. The Lammeys celebrate it in Dinanagar on the holy days of Vaisakhi and Guru Nanak Dev Birthday. Mahajans never marry their children in the same sub caste from mother and father side gotter
as they are considered brothers and sisters. Some Mahajans use the castes of Gupta and even their sub castes too. The Gupta surname is mostly used by the Mahajans of the Jammu region..
