In Loving Memory of Capt. M.S. Kohli (11th Dec 1931 – 23rd June 2025)

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Captain M.S. Kohli, legendary mountaineer, leader of India’s first successful Everest expedition in 1965, and a lifelong patriot who dedicated his life to service, adventure, and nation-building.

A revered figure in Indian mountaineering and public life, Captain Kohli inspired generations through his courage, humility, and unwavering discipline.

We invite all friends, admirers, and well-wishers to join us in honouring his extraordinary life and legacy.

Join in for an enthralling talk titled ”Footprints of Glory,” presented by Brig. Ashok Abbey . Delve into the captivating tale of the 1924 British Everest Expedition , where explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine vanished, as Brig. Abbey takes us on a journey a century back in time.

InI 1865, Peak XV, the highest mountain in the world was
officially named Everest after Colonel ‘Sir’ George Everest, a
British Surveyor.

In 1924, a spirited attempt was made by a British team led
by Colonel Edward Norton, in which the climbing duo of
George Mallory and Andrew Irvine disappeared, last seen
heading strongly towards the summit.

Finally, 29 years later a British Mountaineering Expedition
led by Colonel John Hunt made history, when Sherpa
Tenzing Norgay, and Edmund Hillary, a Beekeeper and
young New Zealand climber from Auckland, reached the
summit of Everest on 29 May 1953.

This ascent was then hailed as one of the biggest
achievements of the human race. But even after 100 years,
mountaineers are seized by the question of whether George
Mallory and Andrew Irvine were the first to set foot on the
