Eggplant (baingan/brinjal) is a widely consumed vegetable across India and is prepared in various ways according to regional tastes and community traditions. Each region has its own unique style of cooking this versatile vegetable.

At street food stalls, brinjal pakora (eggplant fritters) made by dipping slices of brinjal in a spiced gram flour (besan) batter and deep-frying them is a very popular snack. Freshly prepared and served hot, it has a crispy texture and delicious taste that is loved by many.

In the eastern part of India, particularly among Bengali communities, begun bhaja (brinjal fry) is commonly prepared. Thick slices of brinjal are lightly spiced and shallow-fried until golden and soft, and are typically enjoyed with steamed rice and dal. This simple preparation offers a distinct and delightful flavour.

Thus, from pakoras to fries and bharta, eggplant remains one of the most versatile and cherished vegetables in Indian cuisine.

Among the most popular preparations is Baingan Bharta, a classic North Indian dish loved by many. It is made from fire-roasted eggplant that is mashed and cooked with onions, tomatoes, and aromatic spices. The smoky flavor from roasting gives the dish its distinctive taste, making it a favorite accompaniment to roti, paratha, or rice.

Smoky Baingan Bharta, made from fire-roasted eggplant cooked with onions, tomatoes, and spices, is not only delicious but also offers several health benefits:

1. Low in Calories
Eggplant is naturally low in calories, making Baingan Bharta a good option for weight management when prepared with minimal oil.
2. Heart-Friendly
Eggplant contains antioxidants like nasunin and fiber, which help reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and support heart health.
3. Good for Digestion
It is rich in dietary fiber, which improves digestion, prevents constipation, and supports gut health.
4. Rich in Antioxidants
The purple skin of eggplant contains antioxidants that help fight free radicals and reduce oxidative stress.
5. Helps in Blood Sugar Control
The fiber content slows down sugar absorption, making it beneficial for people managing blood sugar levels (when prepared with less oil).
6. Boosts Immunity
Tomatoes, onions, garlic, and spices used in the dish provide vitamins, minerals, and anti-inflammatory compounds.
7. Smoky Roasting – Healthier Cooking Method

Roasting the eggplant directly on flame reduces the need for deep frying and enhances flavor without excess fat.

Among the many indigenous communities of North-East India, the Tripuri people hold a distinct identity with strong traditions and rich cultural heritage. Their ethnic attire, intricate design patterns, traditional motifs, and unique jewellery clearly reflect their community pride and historical roots.

🏛️ Origin of the Name Tripura

The name Tripura is widely believed to have originated from the Tripuri (also known as Tipra) people, who were the original inhabitants and rulers of the region. The royal family of the former princely state of Tripura also belonged to the Tripuri tribe, further strengthening this historical connection.

There are also mythological references suggesting that the name “Tripura” may have been derived from Goddess Tripura Sundari, whose famous temple, Tripura Sundari Temple, is located in the state. However, historically and culturally, the name is most strongly associated with the Tripuri tribe.

🌏 Cultural Identity of the Tripuri Community

The Tripuri community has preserved its identity through:

Language: Kokborok

Traditional attire: Richly woven garments with symbolic patterns

Folk dances and music: Performed during festivals and ceremonies

Distinct customs and rituals: Reflecting ancestral beliefs and social structure

Their traditional dress, often handwoven, carries meaningful motifs and vibrant colours that symbolize nature, bravery, and community values. The jewellery and ornaments further enhance their unique ethnic appearance.

🌸 Rooted in Indigenous Tradition

Thus, the name Tripura reflects the identity, history, and cultural heritage of the Tripuri people. Their traditions continue to thrive, making the state deeply rooted in its indigenous legacy while contributing to the cultural diversity of North-East India.

The Physalis alkekengi, commonly known as the Chinese lantern plant, is a hardy perennial admired for its bright orange, papery husks that appear in late summer and autumn. These delicate, lantern-like coverings surround small red berries, creating a truly eye-catching display.

Its beauty is simply amazing. The glowing orange husks look like tiny hanging lampshades in a garden, gently swaying with the breeze. When sunlight passes through the thin papery covering, it creates a warm and magical effect — almost like nature’s own decorative lights.

Nature has gifted us such wonderful and artistic plants that capture our curiosity and admiration. Every time we see the Chinese lantern plant, our eagerness to admire it never feels complete. Its unique shape, vibrant color, and seasonal charm remind us how creative and extraordinary nature truly is.

This plant is not just beautiful — it is a symbol of the endless surprises and artistic designs that nature offers to us.

When we see an orange, its bright and attractive color immediately makes us want to eat it. The fresh orange shade naturally draws our attention and reminds us of sweetness, freshness, and good health.

Oranges are rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, which help boost immunity, improve skin health, and keep our body refreshed. Just looking at the fruit often gives a feeling of freshness and energy.

Sometimes, because the orange looks so beautiful, perfectly shaped, and glowing in color, we may even hesitate to peel it — almost as if we don’t want to disturb its beauty. But its true beauty is not only in its appearance; it is also in the nutrition and health benefits it provides.

So, beyond its attractive look, an orange is a natural gift that combines beauty, taste, and health in one simple fruit.

The AI Summit was held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from 16th to 20th February, 2026. The event showcased significant advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications across diverse sectors, including innovative developments in the handloom industry.

One of the major highlights of the summit was the demonstration of an AI-enabled advanced loom designed specifically for handloom weavers. The presentation indicated that the AI-integrated loom could reduce at least 20% of the effort and labour hours required for weaving a saree. This technological intervention enhances productivity while preserving the quality and authenticity of traditional handcrafted textiles. Such innovation holds immense potential for improving efficiency and competitiveness in the handloom sector without undermining its cultural value.

In another pavilion, an AI-based interactive device was displayed, where visitors could scan a QR code to identify their intellectual or historical personality match. This engaging application demonstrated the creative and user-friendly integration of AI in public exhibitions, reflecting how technology can make learning and interaction more dynamic.

The summit clearly highlighted how rapidly AI is progressing in the modern era and how it is influencing even traditional sectors such as handloom and handicrafts. These developments are expected to create new opportunities for the younger generation, enabling them to integrate technology with traditional skills and contribute to sustainable growth.

In the coming years, it will be essential for young individuals to understand and adopt AI-based technologies to remain competitive and access emerging employment opportunities. They are encouraged to explore this field seriously, and in case of any queries or challenges, to seek guidance from experienced professionals and experts associated with modern technological advancements.
