We would like to share some alarming statistics with you:
40% of India's population is below the age of 18 years which at 400 million is the world's largest child po
pulation. In India, only 53% of habitations have a primary school.
53% of girls in the age group of 5 to 9 years are illiterate. This is why Sshristi needs your help. We believe it is the basic right of every child to get an education to fulfill his/her potential and lead a life of dignity. We are particularly adamant about improving the treatment of girls and providing all children with the opportunity to test high enough to get into a good government school. Sshrishti operates educational centers for children living in the Kishan Garh and Vasant Kunj slums, in south Delhi. SShrishti was conceived by concerned local residents as a reaction to the plight of these underprivileged children, with a particular focus on migrant worker families. Through our learning centers we reach out to these children and educate them in a joyous, creative and modern atmosphere. Our education curriculum focuses on the core subjects of math, Hindi, English, environmental science and computers, with additional exposure to the arts and various sports. We also provide one warm meal a day and occasional medical check-ups, as well as transportation and uniforms. In addition to our four programs in Delhi, we operate two rural computer learning centers in Rajasthan and Haryana. We are always in need of volunteers, donations, or even just some good ol' karma!
