Advancing Climate Resilience in India through Parliamentary Action

The South Asia Regional Parliamentary Forum (SARPF) for Climate, Energy and Environment, India chapter, successfully convened a high-level dialogue on “Climate-Resilient India: Linking Evidence, Finance and Parliamentary Action” at the Constitution Club, New Delhi on the 3rd of August, 2026.

The discussion brought together parliamentarians and leading experts to discuss how scientific evidence, innovative finance tools, and parliamentary leadership can work together to strengthen India’s climate resilience. Deliberations focused on understanding regional climate risks, identifying effective policy responses for strengthening resilience, and discussing priorities leading up to COP31.

The session was chaired by Hon. MP Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, Chairperson, SARPF, and featured insightful presentations by:

• Ms. Suruchi Badhwal, Senior Fellow & Director, Climate Change and Air Quality, TERI
• Dr. Abhijit Datey, Lead Specialist – Research, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI)

The dialogue reinforced the critical role of evidence-based policymaking, resilient infrastructure, and innovative financing in addressing the growing challenges of climate change. It also underscored the importance of parliamentary engagement and oversight in shaping inclusive and effective climate policies for the future.

SARPF remains committed to fostering dialogue among parliamentarians and strengthening regional parliamentary cooperation to advance climate action and sustainable development across South Asia.

From Partnership to Action: SARPF Parliamentarians’ Study Tour | Day 4 – Jakarta

The final day of the SARPF Parliamentarians’ Study Tour focused on one of the region’s defining challenges - building a secure, sustainable, and integrated energy future through regional cooperation.

✅ At Indonesia’s National Energy Council (DEN), the delegation engaged in a high-level dialogue on Indonesia’s evolving energy policies, long-term energy planning, energy security, and pathways for a balanced and just energy transition.
✅ At the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), parliamentarians explored ASEAN’s regional energy architecture and collaborative approaches to accelerating the energy transition.
🎤 Highlights from the discussions:
• ASEAN’s Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) and its role in advancing regional energy integration.
• The ASEAN Power Grid as a model for -border electricity cooperation.
• Regional strategies on passive cooling and energy efficiency.
• Strengthening coherence between climate policy and energy policy through the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT).
The study tour concluded with a powerful takeaway: effective climate action depends not only on national ambition, but also on strong regional institutions, long-term planning, and sustained political cooperation.
Over four days, South Asian parliamentarians engaged with national governments, ASEAN institutions, financial leaders, researchers, and technical experts across Singapore and Indonesia - gaining valuable insights into climate governance, sustainable finance, energy transition, and regional cooperation. As the delegation returns home, these lessons will continue to inform parliamentary dialogue and strengthen cooperation across South Asia through SARPF.
