SETU Forum on Solid Waste Management: Key Takeaways:
The Dehradun Citizens Forum (DCF) was invited to be a part of the SETU (State Institute for Empowering and Transforming Uttarakhand)-hosted dynamic forum in Dehradun on turning solid waste into wealth. Experts from Sikkim, Arunachal, and beyond shared actionable insights.

• Dr. Bhavna Shinde (Coordinator): Stressed holistic stakeholder accountability—admin, urban bodies, panchayats, private sector, and society—for environmental and social impact.
• Vishal Parasar and Shahzad Ahmed (Advisers, SETU) Highlighted economic, ecological, and social benefits of proper waste management and highlighted present projects.
• Dr. Raj Kishan Joshi (Vice Chairman, SETU): In his Keynote, unveiled a 10-point vision: Converge governance, zero landfills (from 50%), decentralize processing, PPP models, tech integration, dignified jobs, segregation, and tourism links.
• Jasojeet Naik: Showcased RFID/QR tech for tracking collectors—auto-logs house visits to prevent skips.
• Itticcha Sharah (Arunachal): Demonstrated 3 Cs—Co-design, Cultural Integration, Community Governance—for effective collection.
• Kapil Chhetri (Sikkim): Advocated stakeholder sign-off (community, panchayat, bureaucracy) before launch.
• Rohit Joshi: Noted panchayats can generate revenue via waste-to-wealth and Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).
• Sumit Singh (Himvillage): Shared a practical action plan implemented in Uttarakhand.
