Ankuri’s mission is to empower village women to become economically self sufficient, enabling them to be decision makers in their families, and simultaneously improving the health and education of their children. ms to alleviate poverty, teach useful skills in knitting and business practices, and build upon the rich community of the people who have lived here in the foothills for centuries and who continue to follow traditional agricultural practices. Begun 15 years ago as a small group of 10 women, Ankuri now enables the financial independence of over 100 women. The Literacy Centre provides free after school individualized tutoring for village children strengthening their basic skills in English, Reading, and Math. The Center also ensures that children participate in games and sports after class for a holistic learning experience. By empowering the village women to become economically self sufficient, enabling them to be decision makers in their families, and improving the health and education of their children Ankuri's ultimate goal is to facilitate long term development of the community.
