BELAKU, a NGO started by a few Police Officers both serving and retired and with the help of persons with social concern, with a sole intention of providing a Ray of Hope to those deprived of basic living, specially the very deserving amongst the Aged and those Children whose childhood curtailed,
Belaku, engaged in rescuing children from work places, streets etc., provides Protection, Care, Comfo
rt and Education to neglected, single parented and orphans. Belaku started a a residential bridge school ‘INCHARA’ at Davangere in the year 2000 for 100 children rescued from hazardous industries and has so far mainstreamed around 800 rescued children by admitting them to government schools and hostels.
‘INCHARA’ retains the rescued children for a year or two, provides basic amenities, and is engaged in capacity building through formal and non -formal education, and also prepares children for mainstreaming into Govt. Located on the out skirts of Davanagere city on a 3 acres of land granted by the Dist. Administration Davangere, in a Dormitory constructed with the assistance of Philanthropists ,
‘INCHARA’ has very basic facilities and is only able to meet the bear minimum requirements of the inmates. The dormitory is being used as the place to accommodate the children (bed room), class rooms and also as dining hall. Hence there is a immediate need to upgrade the centre with at least separate class rooms and also improve other facilities specially with a more hygienic Kitchen and to also provide better facilities to make this into a comfortable Children’s home. Future Plans
• A Vocational Training Centre for children.
• An Old Age Home (men).
