Picking up Biofencing initiatives as a means of managing human wildlife conflict in Forest Villages of Singalila National Park. Annually 40% to 60% of expected yield is lost to a myriad mammals raiding these tiny pockets of cultivated land that causes immense hardship and stress on the villagers.

Frighteningly, fascinatingly peacocks have made a range shift and made their appearance in these villages and in the lower elevations started eating peas an important crop in the landscape.

🌨️ It's a downpour of plastics on our precious mountains. When the only thing that should rain down on them is timely snow and rain...

⚠️ Most of these plastics are by design problematic, and there are no solutions for their management. Those that can be somewhat managed through recycling, also face challenges of collection, transport and linkages.

🧤 How long can we cleanup, if systems don't change, if policies don't change, if products and packaging don't change, if we don't change?

✊ The Himalayan Cleanup demands real action against plastic pollution in the mountains.

🛎️Plastic producers need to take responsibility for the mess they create.

✍️ Policies need to recognise mountain challenges and push for systemic long term solutions including designing out plastic.

✋ Join thousands of volunteers across the mountains to be part of the movement to reflect, switch and demand.

Picking up on conversations around human wildlife conflict, agroecology, livelihoods and climate change in Samanden Forest Village that had been dropped out during the pandemic days.

Important insights in changes along the landscape of forest villages fringing the Singalila National Park and cocreating solutions contextual to each village that looks at wellbeing in a wholistic manner.

Plastic pollution has not gone away, and we are not going away either.

The Himalayan Cleanup is back for 2026. Let's raise our voices against plastic pollution from the mountain tops, because Our Mountains Deserve Better.

Be part of Himalaya's biggest movement to change how waste is perceived and to change the narrative - Producers need to take responsibility and be held accountable for the waste they are dumping on our mountains.

Get your hands dirty to not just cleanup but to go beyond and find out who the top polluters of our mountains are, and demand action from them.

Let's make ourselves heard loud and clear

--> Big corporations are polluting our mountains, and we demand stronger action.

--> The prolific use of problematic plastics is drowning our mountains and closing the single use plastic tap is the only way forward.

--> Let's also move to reflect on our lifestyles and make switches for zero waste and sustainability.

Registrations are open for organisations, institutions and individuals.

We cannot recycle out of this plastic waste crisis!

Many of the approaches promoted to address plastic pollution rely heavily on capital and energy intensive technologies that have repeatedly fallen short of reducing pollution effectively.

Financial incentives and policy frameworks also remain skewed in favour of large-scale but ineffective quick-fixes propagated by industry, over genuine systemic change.

While activists argue that reducing plastic production is the only viable solution, Global Plastic Treaty negotiations remain stalled by a deep divide between the petrochemical lobby and countries pushing for production caps.

"Reflect on your best and worst learning experience at school"
have been deeply personal and critical conversations for all of us at KN Memorial School workshop.

What are your thoughts?

These conversations have been the basis of co-creating a child centered, joyful and safe learning environment in school at Selphu, Sittong that foregrounds the wellbeing of children in the school ecosystem.
