Team MBKS was proud to be a part of today’s Blood Donation Camp held at Chowrasta on the auspicious occasion of Nepali New Year. The camp was organised by Darjeeling Enfielders in collaboration with Stronger Together, a collective of like-minded social organisations in Darjeeling, of which MBKS Trust is an active member.

It is truly heartening to share that the camp witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than the required number of blood units collected—reflecting the strong spirit of unity, compassion, and service within our community.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every donor who came forward today. Your selfless act has the power to save lives and bring hope to many.

Together, we continue to stand stronger—for humanity, for community, and for a better tomorrow. ❤️

Happy Birthday Darjeeling!!

Members of various social organisations, representatives of the media, and concerned individuals gathered today at the historic Old Cemetery to commemorate the 191st “Birthday” of Darjeeling—a moment of deep historical reflection and collective pride.

On this day in 1835, the Darjeeling Hills were formally transferred to British India through the historic Deed of Grant by the Rajah of Sikkim. This pivotal event marked the beginning of Darjeeling’s transformation into a unique cultural, administrative, and educational hub, shaping its identity over nearly two centuries. Remembering this moment is not merely about the past; it is about understanding our roots, our shared history, and the forces that shaped the Darjeeling we know today.

The programme was honoured by the presence of our Guest of Honour, Mr. R. B. Rai, former Member of Parliament from Darjeeling, whose words added depth and perspective to the significance of the occasion.

Observing such historical milestones is essential to preserve collective memory, foster informed citizenship, and pass on historical consciousness to future generations.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all organisations, members of the media, and individuals who accepted the invitation and participated in today’s gathering. Your presence made this commemoration meaningful and memorable. Special thanks to Mr. Ananta Sharma and Mr. Palzor Tshering for making this happen.

❄️🤍 Warmth Beyond Winter 🤍❄️

As the cold winter winds sweep through the hills, some hands search not for comfort, but for warmth. For "MBKS Trust", winter is a reminder of responsibility — a time to stand beside those who need us the most.

Once again, continuing our annual winter initiative, MBKS Trust distributed clothes to the needy outside Glenary’s, in a heartfelt association with Edwards Foundation and Gorkha Women's Welfare Forum. What may seem like a simple act became moments of dignity, relief, and quiet smiles shared on the pavement.

Every piece of clothing carried more than warmth — it carried care, compassion, and the assurance that no one is forgotten in the cold. The grateful eyes and folded hands reminded us why we return every winter, year after year.

We are deeply thankful to the volunteers who made this possible, and to everyone who believes in humanity over indifference. Special thanks to Mrs. Edwards for her valuable support and Mrs. Krinanta Sadamu Lepcha, head of Anamu Society for the Girl Child, for the clothes. Together, we strive to turn kindness into a habit and service into a tradition.

Because sometimes, all it takes to fight the cold… is a little warmth from the heart. 🤍🙏

Today was an emotional and humbling moment for all of us at MBKS Trust. Under Project MEFAI (MBKS Education For All Initiative), we have decided to sponsor the complete educational expenses of Master Purab Ghaley (12) from Sumbuk, near Lodhoma, from this academic session onwards.

We met Purab and his father today at Darjeeling Gymkhana Club. His father, a driver with very limited means, has been fighting life’s toughest battles alone. Last month, Purab lost his mother to kidney failure—a loss no child should have to endure so early in life. Due to illness and hardship, Purab has missed several years of schooling, yet his eyes still reflect hope, courage, and an unspoken desire to learn.

We are taking a significant step by admitting Purab to a student hostel in Darjeeling and enrolling him in an ICSE school—the first-ever ICSE admission under Project MEFAI.

This is more than sponsorship; it is a promise. A promise that adversity will not decide a child’s future.
Purab, your journey begins anew—and we walk it with you. 🌱📚

MBKS Trust Extends Relief to Landslide Victims at Pokhriabong, Darjeeling Hills 🌄

In the wake of the devastating landslides that struck the serene slopes of Pokhriabong in Darjeeling Hills, the Mukh Bandh Kaam Suru (MBKS) Trust once again stood true to its commitment — to act, not just speak. ❤️

When nature’s fury struck on the dark and rain-soaked night of 4th October 2025, it left behind a trail of destruction — homes buried, roads washed away, and lives disrupted. Families who once lived amidst the lush green tea gardens and gentle mountain breezes suddenly found themselves without roofs, food, or basic necessities.

In these moments of despair, Team MBKS reached out with compassion and action under our Project VIRUS (Volunteers Into Rural Upliftment Services). With the coordinated efforts of its members, volunteers, and local well-wishers, the Trust mobilized several tonnes of essential relief materials and personally reached Pokhriabong to extend a helping hand to more than 35 affected families of Pokhriabong, Selimbong and Tarzum TE.

The relief package included more than 3.5 tonnes of vital essentials such as rice, pulses, lentils, salt, tea, sugar, edible vegetables tarpaulin sheets, hygienic products and toiletries — all carefully packed and delivered with empathy and care. 🛖

Beyond material support, what truly mattered was the human connection — the reassuring words, the listening ears, and the comforting presence of our team members who spent time with the victims in the relief camps. Many had lost not only their homes but also their sense of hope. It was in those moments that MBKS volunteers, driven by the Trust’s motto of “Mukh Bandh Kaam Suru” — less talk, more work — offered strength, comfort, and solidarity. 💪

Our visit was not just about distributing relief; it was about rebuilding hope. Each package handed over carried with it the collective compassion of those who believe in standing together in times of crisis. From elderly villagers struggling to rebuild their huts to little children huddled in makeshift shelters, every smile we received reminded us why MBKS exists — to be there when the community needs us most.

The journey to Pokhriabong was not easy — steep, muddy roads and ongoing rains made transportation difficult. Yet, the determination of Team MBKS to reach every affected family remained unshaken. With the help of local coordinators and volunteers of Pokhriabong Sewa Sanstha, Team MBKS managed to navigate the challenging terrain and ensure that no one was left behind. 🚛

As we distributed relief materials and interacted with families, we were deeply moved by their resilience. Despite the immense loss, the people radiated warmth, strength, and gratitude. Their courage in the face of adversity inspired us to do even more.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed — Kolkata Gives Foundation, supporters, and well-wishers who made this relief mission possible. Your kindness and generosity have brought light and comfort to many lives. 🤝

But our work does not end here. MBKS Trust continues to assess the long-term needs of the victims — from rebuilding homes to supporting children’s education and healthcare in the affected areas. We are committed to walking alongside our community on the road to recovery.

Natural disasters may test our strength, but they also bring out the best in humanity. Together, we can rebuild what has been lost — not just structures, but hope, dignity, and dreams. 🌱

To everyone who believes in compassion in action, we invite you to be part of our journey. Every small contribution, every act of kindness, every helping hand makes a difference.

Let’s keep proving that when the hills tremble, our hearts stand firm. ❤️

[P.S.: All Photos have been taken and uploaded after taking the full consent of the families for the documentation purposes of our annual activities to be submitted to the government.]

Standing Together in Times of Crisis | MBKS Relief Mission to Chandramaan Dhura, Rungmook Tea Garden

On October 4, 2025, the hills of Darjeeling trembled once again under the fury of nature. Torrential rain unleashed devastating landslides, leaving trails of destruction across tea gardens and villages. Among the hardest hit was S***a Gaon in Rungmook Tea Garden, Sonada, where 29 families were forced to flee their homes and take refuge in a temporary relief camp set up at a local primary school at Chandramaan Dhura, Rungmook TE, after their entire village became unsafe and unstable owing to a massive landslide that occured at the top of village and destroying a house completely in the process. When the news reached us, Team MBKS immediately mobilized to stand by the affected families.

The Journey of Compassion
On 10th October, Team MBKS, reached Siliguri and packed relief materials weighing more than 3 tonnes in two pick-up vans. The vehicles carried food essentials like rice, dal, sugar, salt, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, chickpeas, soyabeans, along with tarpaulins, medical kits and other daily necessities. They reached the relief camp after sunset.
We travelled to the site today. The journey was long and difficult — roads were slippery, some blocked by debris, and the air was heavy with mist and grief. Yet, every turn of the mountain reminded us why we were there — to bring hope where it was fading. Each packet symbolized more than supplies — it was a message of love and solidarity from one hill family to another.

At the Relief Camp
We were received by RJ Sagar Sagar Rai and Mr. Pawan S***a, the local content creator whose videos bought awareness about the plight of the villagers to the masses. The sight inside the relief camp was heartbreaking. Families who once lived amidst the serenity of tea gardens were now sheltered in a primary school, surrounded by gloom and uncertainty. Children clung to their parents, and the elderly sat quietly, staring at the land that once held their homes.
The local volunteers had unloaded the materials and organized them in a systematic manner in a storeroom the day before. An elderly woman whispered, “We thought we had been forsaken… thank you for coming.” Those words will stay with us forever.

Humanity in Action
For MBKS, relief work isn’t charity — it’s community in action. We believe that when one part of the hills suffers, the rest must rise to help. While distributing aid, our team spent time with the children at the camp — playing, laughing, and listening to their stories. In that small moment of joy, amidst so much loss, we saw courage and resilience shining through.
We spoke to the victims in the camp. We helped them wipe their tears, literally and figuratively. Theirs were stories of gloom and despondency. We also met with local community leaders to assess what more could be done in the days ahead — from food security to shifting them to new houses in another safer location.
We also visited S***a Gaon, the epicentre of this mishap. Walking through a deserted village felt like a scene from an apocalyptic movie. Prayash, the only son of the family that lost their house in the landslide, narrated the ordeal of his family on the fateful night with a heavy breadth. We could only listen with an even heavier heart.
We were then shown around the various landslides that had occurred in the adjacent village of Basnet Dhura by its residents. The loosening of the soil has made it precarious for the residents to live there any further.

The Power of Togetherness
This mission was made possible by the collective strength of our supporters — our members, donors and well-wishers who never hesitate to lend a helping hand. Every contribution, every encouraging word, and every moment of trust fuels our work. A huge shoutout to Kolkata Gives Foundation who have helped us reach the needy in every calamity since the pandemic. Your compassion travelled through every mountain road and reached every family that needed hope.
As we left Chandramaan Dhura this evening, the sun was dipping behind the misty hills, and the sky had turned golden. The air was cold, but our hearts were warm — filled with the quiet satisfaction of having served, and the determination to keep doing more.

Moving Forward with Hope
The families of S***a Gaon have shown us what true resilience looks like. Despite their losses, they hold onto faith, helping one another rebuild their lives from the ground up.
MBKS Trust stands with them — not just today, but in the days ahead. Our work continues as we plan further support for those still in relief camps and for the rebuilding of homes once the weather clears.

We invite everyone — individuals, organizations, and well-wishers — to join hands with us. Together, we can ensure that no family in Darjeeling faces disaster alone.
Every act of kindness matters. Every helping hand heals.
Together, We Rebuild. Together, We Rise. 🌿

Team MBKS embarked on a heartwarming journey, walking downhill from Singtam Fatak to Raghubir Dhura, Singtam TE on a hot sultry day with a meaningful mission—to visit the home of Mrs. Sushma Chettri. The purpose of this trip was more than just a courtesy call; it was to extend support and sponsor the education of her two children under our Project MEFAI (MBKS Education For All Initiative), opening doors to a brighter and more promising future.

As we descended through the scenic beauty of the tea garden, the anticipation of helping shape young lives filled our hearts. After walking for nearly an hour, we reached her residence. Mrs. Chettri was not at home. She was apparently returning back from work after doing house chores in a few houses in Singamari. Her brother, Mr. Sudhir Chettri, welcomed us with warmth and gratitude, and we could feel the hope in his eyes. We waited as he called Nikhil, who was playing nearby in a field.

Nikhil arrived with a tinge of amusement and curiosity in his eyes. He narrated to us his story. He is studying in seventh standard in St. Michael's HS School, Darjeeling. He walks everyday up and down for more than two and a half hours to reach his school. His younger sister, Ishana, is studying in fourth standard in the same school. His favourite subject is Mathematics, a rarity amongst hill students. His father expired nearly a decade earlier and his mother has to look after all three of them in a paltry sum of money.

We talked to him cheerfully. We have decided to sponsor both Nikhil and Ishana's education under our Project MEFAI. With this sponsorship, Mrs. Chettri's children now have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and education without the financial burden that previously weighed heavy on their family. We then bid them farewell. As we made our way uphill, their giggles faded away behind the rustling of the leaves atop the tall trees.

Our commitment to supporting education stems from our belief that it is the most powerful tool for transformation. By investing in these children's futures, we are not just helping a family, but contributing to the upliftment of the entire community.

This journey was a reminder that small steps, when taken together, can lead to monumental changes. Here's to more such journeys and more lives transformed!
