On 21st February at Bhanu Bhawan, Darjeeling, Eastern Himalayan Foundation hosted its first large-scale Dreams to Careers Fest — designed to bridge students with credible higher education and career pathways.

Here’s what the day looked like:

• 270+ participants
• Representation from 10 colleges across Darjeeling and Kalimpong
• 8 universities and partner organisations
• Direct access to information on scholarships, higher education programs, internships, placements, financial assistance, and fellowship opportunities.
• 6+ hours of structured interaction and engagement

In regions where access to structured career guidance is limited, scale matters. Access matters. Proximity to institutions matters.

D2C Fest was built to create that access — bringing institutions and students into the same room for meaningful, informed conversations.

This is what ecosystem-building in the hills looks like.

Grateful to all institutional partners, representatives, students, and our team who made this possible.

Residential Training 5 (RT-5)
Trailblazer Fellowship
A Programme under the Eastern Himalayan Foundation.

The fifth Residential Training (RT-5) of the Trail Blazer Fellowship was held from 8th–12th February 2026 at Disha Centre, Kalimpong. Over four impactful days, fellows strengthened their learning, refined their projects, and prepared for the significant milestone of Pitch Day.

On day one, fellows and the Eastern Himalayan Foundation (EHF) team travelled to Kalimpong and engaged in intensive mentoring sessions to sharpen their presentations for Pitch Day held on 10th February 2026.

Day two focused on mid-term assessments, project tracker reviews, and structured reflections, enabling fellows to assess progress and identify areas for improvement. A well-being session by Mr. Bivek Pradhan, Psychologist at District Hospital, Kalimpong, emphasized emotional awareness and mental health in community work.

Day three marked Pitch Day, where fellows presented the final outcomes of 18 projects. The event was graced by Rtn. Dilram Gurung (Rotary Club of Kalimpong), Mr. Bivek Pradhan (District Hospital, Kalimpong), Assistant Professor Yojna Kharga (Kalimpong Degree College), Mr. Shriyash (SVP Kolkata Partner), Sabrina Ma’am, and Sir Kiran Chettri (Kalimpong NGO Network). Their feedback and insights significantly contributed to the fellows’ learning and project development.

The final day was dedicated to incorporating feedback, followed by team-building activities and a session exploring Confluence Collective’s photo archives.

RT-5 strengthened the fellows’ confidence, project implementation skills, and reflective practices, reaffirming the Fellowship’s commitment to nurturing emerging youth leaders in the region.

Four days of slowing down to think deeper, and moving forward with greater clarity.

This residential training was not just about strengthening projects, but about strengthening intent. Our fellows spent time questioning why they do the work they do, and how it can meaningfully contribute to the communities they are part of, beyond the timeline of a fellowship. By revisiting and tightening their SMART goals, they worked towards making their projects more grounded, realistic, and accountable.

Through sessions on locus of control, fellows reflected on what lies within their influence while working with complex systems and stakeholders, learning to focus their energy where it can truly create change. They were also introduced to fundraising, pitching, and the thoughtful use of social media and LinkedIn as tools to share process, learning, and impact.

Learning extended beyond sessions. Through games, conversations, and a treasure hunt across Kalimpong, fellows explored the town together - building trust, joy, and connection. A visit to BSA (Bal Suraksha Abhiyan) deepened their understanding of grassroots work on child rights and working with systems in the local context.

The four days closed with project presentations, feedback, and reflection, leaving fellows with clearer direction, stronger purpose, and a renewed commitment to community-rooted work.

Admissions, higher education, career choices and “what next?”
For most students, this is the biggest burning question over the next 3–4 months.

At Eastern Himalayan Foundation (EHF), we see this confusion up close. Many of our students are first-generation learners, making decisions that will shape not just their careers, but their confidence and sense of direction. Through EmpowerED, we support students in exploring higher education and career pathways with clarity, honest guidance, and real conversations so their choices are informed and thoughtful.

As part of this effort, we were privileged to host Prof. Soumyajit Bhar, Assistant Professor at the School of Liberal Studies, BML Munjal University, who brings over 15 years of experience in sustainability studies, ecological economics, and interdisciplinary education.

He engaged in an open, interactive discussion with our students, speaking about:

• What liberal arts education truly means, beyond common myths
• How it shapes everyday thinking, problem-solving, and worldview
• The future prospects and career pathways available to liberal arts students
• How interdisciplinary learning prepares students for a rapidly changing world

Most importantly, students had the space to ask questions, reflect on their doubts, and think deeply about whether this path aligns with their own interests and aspirations.

At EHF, we don’t just think about admissions.
We think about students’ journeys, decisions, and confidence.

There’s a unique kind of grit that comes from growing up in the hills. This week, we saw that grit transform into leadership at our first Annual Alumni Meet.

It was a room full of stories. We heard from students who left the mountains for fellowships and degrees across India, only to return with a single question: "How can I make it easier for the youth coming up behind me?" Their feedback isn't just data to us—it’s our roadmap. We started these programs hoping to build resilient communities, but our alumni reminded us that they are already doing the work. We’re just proud to be in their corner.

How EmpowerED opened doors to Azim Premji University — Avinash’s story.

It’s been incredible to see how, after the orientation, several students have chosen to take the path less taken and have already reached out to us for support with their university applications. This is just Day 1, and we hope we get to have many more working weekends like this one.

Wishing them the bestest of luck as they take this exciting step forward — we’re cheering for each one of them! 🌿✨

Pratik and Nikhil walked into the hall yesterday with a quiet confidence that only a year of growing up can bring. Now studying at Azim Premji University, they had come back to speak to Class 12 students who are standing exactly where they once stood. They spoke openly about their first year, the new experiences, the challenges and the joy of finding their place. They even shared, with a laugh, how their first week on campus pushed them to sign up for more clubs than they could count, before realising which ones they could truly commit to. The students in the hall listened closely, and for a moment, the future felt a little more reachable.

With that warmth already filling the room, the rest of the orientation at Bhanu Bhawan in Darjeeling unfolded beautifully. Nearly 200 students, teachers and members of the Education Department, GTA joined us, along with students from St. Robert’s, St. Michael’s and St. Teresa’s. Together, we explored universities that offer strong undergraduate programs, excellent faculty, vibrant learning environments, full placement support and up to 100% need-based scholarships. They show just how far determination and the right support can take a student.

We are grateful we could share all of this, and we remain committed to walking with every student who wishes to apply, step by step, until they reach the finish line.

One step at a time. One student at a time.
Together, we are building mountain communities stronger than ever.
