A regional training course on the coordinated implementation of international fisheries instruments took place in Rabat, Morocco, from 30 March to 3 April 2026, bringing together 30 participants from 10 countries across Africa hosted by the Government of Morocco.

The course was organized in collaboration with FAO, ILO, and IMO, as well as regional partners including the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation among African States bordering the Atlantic Ocean (COMHAFAT/ATLAFCO) and the Indian Ocean Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control.

The IOMOU Secretariat is pleased to announce its successfully completed “Second Expert Mission for port State control Officers” in the Indian Ocean Region, jointly hosted by The Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Port, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India and the Indian Ocean MOU, held at Chennai, India from 09 to 20 February 2026”. A total of 23 participants attended this program from the Authorities of India, South Africa, Oman, Myanmar, Mozambique, Seychelles and Sri Lanka including 02 participants from the Mediterranean and Tokyo MoU as well. The main objective of the training course was to provide opportunity to the qualified port State control officers of the Indian Ocean Region to update their knowledge on the latest PSC activities (training through theoretical classes followed by on-board inspection) and share their experiences with the other PSC officers in their Authority, thus making the programme more meaningful and effective. This training program is a part of the technical cooperation and capacity building program of the Indian Ocean MoU and are being provided by the senior experts of the IOMOU and Classification Societies.

The Indian Ocean Memorandum of Understanding (IOMOU) Secretariat had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Sergey Kulikov – Director General, Mr. Andrey Fasolko – Deputy Director General and Mr. Oleg Chernov – Head International Affairs department, on behalf of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS) on an official visit in the IOMOU Secretariat, Goa, India. During the visit, the delegates from both (RMRS and the Secretariat) delivered informative presentations highlighting activities of each Organisation.

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for both parties to exchange views and share best practices in the field of port State control, classification, and maritime standards. The IOMOU Secretariat extends its sincere appreciation to the RMRS delegates for their visit and for the insightful interaction, which further reinforces collaboration towards promoting safe, secure, and environmentally sound shipping in the region.
