An Evening of Friendship, Hospitality & Maritime Cooperation in La Réunion 🇷🇪🌍⚓

A truly memorable evening in La Réunion, where the IOMOU Secretariat, Member Authorities, distinguished Observers from other Port State Control MoUs, and representatives of the Host Authorities were graciously invited by the Préfet de La Réunion to a wonderful cocktail dinner.

The evening was much more than a formal gathering. It was a celebration of the strong bonds of friendship, cooperation, collaboration and mutual understanding that unite the Port State Control community across regions.

Our sincere appreciation to the Préfecture de La Réunion and the Host Authorities for their warm hospitality and for creating such a wonderful opportunity to meet, share experiences and strengthen our relationships beyond the conference room.

Together, we continue to work towards safer, cleaner and more secure seas. 🌊⚓🤝

29th Annual Meeting of the IOMOU Port State Control Committee – La Réunion

A memorable gathering of the Indian Ocean MoU on Port State Control (IOMOU) family at the 29th Annual Meeting in beautiful La Réunion.

The meeting brings together representatives of Member Authorities, Observers participating physically and virtually, and the maritime industry, united by a common commitment to strengthen cooperation, harmonisation and effective Port State Control.

Beyond the meetings and deliberations, it is also about friendship, collaboration and sharing experiences—working together towards safer ships, cleaner oceans and a stronger maritime community across the Indian Ocean region.

A regional training course on the coordinated implementation of international fisheries instruments took place in Rabat, Morocco, from 30 March to 3 April 2026, bringing together 30 participants from 10 countries across Africa hosted by the Government of Morocco.

The course was organized in collaboration with FAO, ILO, and IMO, as well as regional partners including the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation among African States bordering the Atlantic Ocean (COMHAFAT/ATLAFCO) and the Indian Ocean Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control.

A Major Milestone👏

The IOMOU Secretariat is pleased to announce its successfully completed “Second Expert Mission for port State control Officers” in the Indian Ocean Region, jointly hosted by The Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Port, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India and the Indian Ocean MOU, held at Chennai, India from 09 to 20 February 2026”. A total of 23 participants attended this program from the Authorities of India, South Africa, Oman, Myanmar, Mozambique, Seychelles and Sri Lanka including 02 participants from the Mediterranean and Tokyo MoU as well. The main objective of the training course was to provide opportunity to the qualified port State control officers of the Indian Ocean Region to update their knowledge on the latest PSC activities (training through theoretical classes followed by on-board inspection) and share their experiences with the other PSC officers in their Authority, thus making the programme more meaningful and effective. This training program is a part of the technical cooperation and capacity building program of the Indian Ocean MoU and are being provided by the senior experts of the IOMOU and Classification Societies.
