Shri Vivekanand Research and Training Institute (VRTI), Mandvi, had the opportunity to be part of the IWMI–TATA Water Policy Program held at Anand on 5 December 2025.
Kamalendu Bhakat, Deputy CEO, represented VRTI in the session Groundwater Recharge – Experiences and Opportunities. He shared field experience from Kutch on groundwater stress, community-led groundwater governance, and solutions being implemented through groundwater recharge technologies and integrated village-level water planning.
The presentation highlighted:
• Severe groundwater depletion and salinity intrusion in coastal Kutch
• The role of community participation and scientific monitoring
• Recharge structures including artificial recharge borewells, trenches, filter wells, and defunct borewell / well recharging units
• Measurable impact from villages where water tables have improved and TDS levels have reduced
The discussions brought together experts, practitioners and institutions working towards scalable approaches for water security. It was encouraging to see how diverse ideas, traditional systems and modern technologies can complement each other when communities are at the centre.
We thank IWMI-TATA and the organisers for creating a platform that connects research with practice and inspires actionable pathways for India’s water secure future.

From classroom to gameboard — students are climbing ladders for the planet. "Every climb is a win for the Earth, every slide a lesson learned.

As part of our “Climate Change Education Through Games” project in Mandvi and Mundra talukas, we organized a Climate Change Awareness Program to help students understand how everyday habits at home can impact our planet.

To make learning fun and memorable, we introduced a special edition Snake & Ladder game redesigned with climate change themes:

✅ Good habits like switching off unused lights or planting trees help you climb ladders.

⚠️ Harmful actions like wasting water or using excessive plastic make you slide down the snakes.

By combining play with learning, students across schools are realizing that small, mindful actions can lead us toward a greener and more sustainable future. 💚
