Sukanya’s story is one of quiet strength and resilience.

Once a kirtan singer from Panishala, Cooch Behar, her life changed after losing her father in childhood. In search of work, she travelled to Bihar, only to face financial and physical exploitation. What began as hope turned into a struggle for survival.

Choosing courage, she returned home and rebuilt her life with the support of Moitrisanjog Society Coochbehar. Through a paper plate making initiative, she found a path to dignity and independence.

Today, Sukanya is not only earning for herself but also inspiring others in her community to choose safer, sustainable livelihoods.

Her journey is a reminder that resilience can transform even the hardest realities.

🌈 Building Leadership, Strengthening Voices, Creating Change 🌈

Moitrisanjog Society, Cooch Behar recently organised a residential workshop that brought together LGBTQ+ community members, youth leaders, and allies for deep learning, reflection, and collective empowerment. The workshop focused on leadership development, education, mental health, LGBTQ+ rights, and advocacy, recognising these as interconnected pillars for sustainable social change.

Through thought-provoking discussions, experiential activities, creative play, role-plays, and group reflections, participants critically engaged with questions of identity, inclusion, stigma, and resilience. Special emphasis was placed on mental health and emotional well-being, creating a safe and affirming space where lived experiences could be shared, validated, and transformed into strength.

The sessions on rights and advocacy helped participants understand legal protections, social responsibilities, and the power of collective action, while leadership and skill-building activities nurtured confidence, communication, and community mobilisation. The residential format encouraged trust, solidarity, and meaningful dialogue beyond formal sessions.

This workshop was not just a learning programme—it was a process of empowerment, awareness-building, and movement-strengthening, reaffirming Moitrisanjog Society Coochbehar’s commitment to equality, dignity, and justice for LGBTQ+ and marginalised communities.

When voices are informed, empowered, and united—change becomes inevitable.

What happens when dreams are forced to drop out of school?
Moitrisanjog Society CoochBehar took this hard-hitting question to the streets through a powerful street drama on school dropout among community members.

With raw emotions, gripping performances, and real-life stories, the drama captured the struggles of students pushed out of classrooms by poverty, discrimination, family pressure, and lack of support. Passersby stopped, watched, felt — and most importantly — reflected.

This was not just a performance.
It was a call to action.

📚 To keep children in school
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 To support families
🌱 To protect futures before they are lost

Because education should never be abandoned— and neither should our children.

✊ Together, we can stop school dropouts.

মৈত্রীসংযোগ গুরুকূল প্রতি বছরের মতো বাচ্চাদের শীত বস্ত্র বিতরণ এর উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে ।
আগামী ২২ তারিখ যারা নিয়মিত গুরু কুলের কাজের পাশে থাকছেন থেকেছেন তারা এগিয়ে আসুন এবং অংশগ্রহণ করুন । একটি সুস্থ সমাজ তৈরিতে বাচ্চাদের ভূমিকা তুলোনাহীন ।

Today marked a meaningful step forward at Moitrisanjog Shelter, Cooch Behar , where community members came together for a Skill Training in Sital Pati Weaving and Handicraft Production, designed to strengthen inclusive livelihood opportunities for transgender individuals.

With the generous support of The Humsafar Trust and TRANScend, this initiative goes beyond skill-building—it uplifts voices, nurtures economic independence, and reinforces our shared commitment to dignity and equality.

The training brought together individuals with diverse experiences and aspirations, united by the desire to learn, grow, and build sustainable futures. Each participant carried with them a story of resilience, and today, those stories found new avenues of expression through craft and creativity.

At Moitrisanjog, we believe that empowerment begins with opportunity. By expanding skills and nurturing livelihoods, we strive to create a world where every person, regardless of identity, has the space to thrive with pride.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners, facilitators, and community members who made this day truly special. Together, we continue to weave a stronger, more inclusive social fabric.
