Rotary Clubs Unite for Insightful Cybercrime Session

Mumbai, [May 28, 2025] – The Rotary Club of Mumbai South Cuffe Parade hosted a remarkable joint meeting tonight, drawing an impressive attendance of over 75 members from various Rotary clubs across Mumbai, along with a host of South Zone district office bearers and esteemed guests.

The evening's highlight was an in-depth address on cybercrime by Senior Police Inspector Nandakumar Gopal. Inspector Gopal captivated the audience with a comprehensive analysis of newly trending cyberattacks, offering common citizens crucial insights into the threats they might encounter. His presentation, enriched with compelling case reports, underscored the relentless efforts of the Mumbai Police and the Cybercrime Department. Attendees were particularly struck by the team's dedication to not only solving cases but also providing assistance to those affected.

The event was graced by the presence of District Governor Chetan Desai of Rotary District 3141, who served as the Chief Guest.

Governor Chetan Desai was visibly impressed by the valuable information shared by the Cybercrime Department. He extended his heartfelt thanks to Dr. Keiki Mehta, President of the Rotary Club of Mumbai South, for consistently bringing in such exceptional speakers. Governor Desai lauded Dr. Mehta's vibrant involvement in the club and commended him for his numerous successful and ongoing Rotary projects, expressing his admiration for one individual's profound dedication to the organization.

The District Governor was introduced by District Secretary Rtn. Anila Pillai, who eloquently highlighted his extensive achievements within Rotary.

Adding to the evening's significance, 9 traffic wardens were also honored by the District Governor for their association with the Rotary Club of Mumbai South.

The memorable evening concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Keiki Mehta. The overwhelming attendance and the impactful discussions ensured a truly memorable and informative night for all.

Celebration at the Rotary Club Of Mumbai South and Cuffe parade joint meeting.

The clubs is celebrated, Holi and Gudi Padwa with a lot of music and dance, making it an enjoyable, entertaining evening with a lot of active participation from members.

The clubs also celebrated the birthday of Mrs. Hutoxi Elavia, mother of Vibrant President Errick Elavia President of Rotary club of Cuffe Parade.

Rtn. Sonu Chowdhry invited a very special guest, Rtn. Dr. Indumati Gopinathan Huang melodiously number of songs of yesteryers.

We also had a very own learning facilitator , Rtn. Anila Pillai who also sang and entertained the members with her melodious tunes.

Celebration evening was hosted by none other than Rotarian Sonu Chowdhry and Rtn. Anand Ramani.

Professor Dr. Keiki Mehta Vibrant President of Rotary Club Of Mumbai South thanked all those involved in organising the evening and making it joyous, wonderful festive evening.

Rotary District 3141 Cycling Rally Pedals Towards Diabetes Awareness with 1257 Cyclists; Mumbai Police Commended for Exceptional Support

Mumbai, India – March 20, 2025 – Under the crisp morning air, the streets of South Mumbai transformed into a vibrant path of awareness as 1257 cyclists participated in the highly successful 9th Annual Rotary District 3141 Cycling Rally for Diabetes Awareness. Organized by the Mehta International Eye Institute and the Rotary Club of Mumbai South, under the dynamic leadership of Padmasree Professor Dr. Keiki R. Mehta, President of the Rotary Club of Mumbai South (2024-25), the event was a resounding success, drawing significant attention to the critical issue of diabetes.

This year’s cycling rally saw participants from across Maharashtra and even internationally, showcasing the event’s widespread appeal. Notably, a significant number of tandem cyclists and visually impaired cyclists joined the rally, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to this record-breaking event held annually. Their participation underscored the inclusive nature of the rally and the community's dedication to supporting individuals with diverse abilities.

A special acknowledgment and heartfelt gratitude are extended to the Mumbai Police for their invaluable support and seamless coordination. Their meticulous planning and ex*****on of traffic management ensured the safety and smooth flow of the rally, facilitating the participation of 1257 cyclists. The Mumbai Police’s unwavering dedication and professional support were instrumental in the event’s success, demonstrating their commitment to community initiatives and public safety. Without their exceptional assistance, managing such a large-scale event would have been an insurmountable task. Their contribution was truly indispensable.

The event commenced with registrations beginning at 5:45 AM, efficiently managed by the Mehta International Eye Institute team. Participants received specially designed t-shirts promoting diabetes awareness. Each cyclist was also assigned a token number for a highly anticipated lucky draw held at the rally's finish point, Suryawanshi Hall in Dadar.

The lucky draw featured an array of coveted prizes, including cycling accessories such as helmets, sensory gloves, ergonomically designed silicon cycle seats, and other exciting prizes. The grand prize, a state-of-the-art 27-speed gear bicycle, was awarded to the elated Mr. Mitesh Patel.

Upon reaching the finish line, cyclists were treated to refreshing snacks and fruity beverages, creating a celebratory atmosphere. The event was lauded for its seamless organization and the adventurous, fun-filled morning it provided to all participants.

This 9th consecutive cycling rally for diabetes awareness stands as a testament to the exceptional management and teamwork of the Mehta International Eye Institute. District Governor DG Chetan Desai expressed his admiration for Dr. Keiki Mehta’s unwavering dedication, recognizing the event as one of Rotary’s premier projects of the year.

Dr. Keiki Mehta presented awards of appreciation to key supporters, including ZEISS India, for their consistent backing of Rotary's social initiatives, and Care Group, a leading provider of intraocular lenses, for their substantial contributions to the rally's success and ongoing support of Rotary’s community projects.

Cataract Surgery for the Mumbai Police

Padmashree Prof. Dr. Keiki R. Mehta, Surgical Chief & Medical Director, Mehta International Eye Institute, in Colaba, conducted a FREE Cataract Surgery Camp for Mumbai Police personnel where 40 cases were very successfully operated by Prof. Dr. Keiki Mehta & Dr. Cyres K. Mehta on Saturday, 8th February 2025.

This is the 14th Cataract Surgery for Mumbai Police, conducted by the Mehta International Eye Institute in collaboration with Nagpada Police Hospital, Mumbai, Rotary International: District 3141 & Rotary Club of Mumbai South.

The Cataract Surgical Camp was inaugurated by Mumbai Police Commissioner: Mr. Vivek Phansalkar who congratulated Prof. Dr. Keiki & Dr. Cyres for this humane project and to meet and boost the morale of the patients who were operated.

The camp was held under supervision of Dr. Gajanan Sanap: Mumbai Police Surgeon, Dr. Suryakant Karade, Medical Officers of Nagpada Police Hospital, Mumbai.

Rotary Clubs of Mumbai South and Rotary Club of Cuffe Parade Announce Historic Merger

Two of Mumbai's prominent Rotary Clubs, the Rotary Club of Mumbai South (RCMS) and the Rotary Club of Cuffe Parade, have officially merged, creating a stronger force for community service in South Mumbai.

The merger was formalized on Thursday 30th January 2025 at the Bahai Center, Churchgate, at a Joint Club Board Meeting, marking a significant moment for Rotary District 3141.

The 35-member RCMS, one of the oldest Rotary Clubs in Mumbai, and the 24-member Rotary Club of Cuffe Parade have joined forces to enhance their impact on the community.

District Governor DG Chetan Desai expressed his delight at the merger, which occurred during his tenure.

The successful union is a testament to the leadership of RCMS President Padmashree Rtn Prof. Dr. Keiki R. Mehta and RCCP, President Rtn. Errick Elavia. Their vision and dedication, coupled with the enthusiastic support of the members of both clubs, paved the way for this historic event.

Members from both clubs expressed excitement about the opportunities the merger presents. They anticipate an increase in membership, access to a wider range of distinguished guest speakers, and the ability to undertake more impactful projects together, ultimately benefiting society at large.

The merger agreement was signed by the Presidents and Secretaries of both clubs during the joint board meeting held on Thursday 30th January 2025 at the Bahai Center, Churchgate, a celebratory occasion marked by a cake-cutting ceremony. The meeting concluded with a delightful dinner and dessert.

The newly merged club looks forward to a long and prosperous future of service and fellowship. This union promises to strengthen Rotary's presence in South Mumbai and amplify its positive influence on the community.

Rotary Club of Mumbai South Hosts Successful OCV by DG Chetan Desai

The Rotary Club of Mumbai South, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Keiki R. Mehta as Vibrant President for the Rotary Year 2024 – 25, successfully hosted an Official Club Visit (OCV) by District Governor Chetan Desai on 21st January 2025.

The event was a resounding success, showcasing the club's dedication to service and its impactful projects.

The OCV involved a comprehensive review of the club's activities, including a thorough examination of documents, meeting minutes and agendas, project reports, etc. The club presented its current and upcoming projects, highlighting its commitment to community service.

A key highlight of the event was the impressive presentations by 80 Rotary Interact students from nine Mumbai schools. Students showcased their impactful projects, receiving well-deserved awards for their efforts.

District Secretary Rtn. Nirupama Khandke expertly guided the session with the Interact schools, inviting teachers from several schools to address the gathering. The teachers expressed sincere gratitude to the Rotary Club of Mumbai South for the consistent support and assistance provided to their schools over the years.

The award ceremony was a joyful occasion with many photographs capturing the students' excitement. The children were thrilled to be invited to the meeting and thoroughly enjoyed the experience
President Dr. Keiki Mehta delivered an inspiring presentation on the club's achievements, including the groundbreaking "Jyoti AI" smart glasses for the visually impaired. He also outlined upcoming projects, such as the 13-year-long Rotary Cycling Rally for diabetes awareness and the free surgical eye camps for Mumbai police personnel and their families.

A senior Rotarian of RCMS, Rtn. Deepak Bhimani shared his experience with a long-term project completed in the early 1980s, which provided permanent homes for an entire in a rural area.
Assistant Governor Dr. Radhika Krishnan introduced DG Desai with an impressive biodata, highlighting his significant contributions as District Governor.

DG Desai addressed the club members with a vibrant speech, acknowledging the outstanding work of President Mehta and his team. He particularly praised Secretary Mrs. Nargis Gaur for her invaluable contributions.

On a cheerful note, DG Chetan Desai concluded the OCV meeting, saying that if at all this was an examination, then the Rotary club of Mumbai South had passed with distinction.

The OCV was attended by several Rotary Dignitaries, including District Secretary Rtn. Nirupama Khand, Assistant Governor Rtn. Dr. Radhika Krishnan and Learning Facilitator Rtn. Anila Pillai and Rtn. Dilip Shah, District Coordinator Membership Rtn. Sandip Kedia who all expressed their admiration for the club's achievements.

The meeting concluded with a delicious dinner and sweet treats. Rotarian Deepak Bhimani extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to DG Desai for his time and valuable insights.
