*Blooming where they truly belong 🌼*
These native flowers of the Western Himalayas turn Chamba into a living canvas every spring—wild, rooted, and unapologetically alive.
*Pictured here:*
1. *_Rhododendron arboreum_* – locally known as *’Burans’*, this tree bursts into bright crimson blooms in spring. Local communities cherish its flowers; they are used as a delicacy, often prepared as chutney and juice.
2. *_Bergenia ciliata_* – A beautiful shrub that thrives on rocky crevices, making barren stones look alive with its lush foliage and pinkish-white flower clusters.
3. *_Prunus cerasoides_* – This tree flishes with bright pink flowers that resemble the famed cherry blossoms of Japan. Its blossoms herald the arrival of spring in the valleys.
4. *_Berberis napaulensis_* – A remarkable shrub bearing delicate berries that attract bugs and butterflies throughout the season, adding color and vitality to the ecosystem.
5. *_Pyrus pashia_* – A native fruiting tree that hosts bears and langurs during its fruiting season. Its blossoms add a delicate white hue to the landscape, while the fruits support local wildlife.
These species not only beautify Chamba but also sustain its rich biodiversity and cultural traditions. The Himalayan Restoration Project aims to restore these species for more colorful springs to come🌿
