Micro Credit Foundation (MCF) is a Public Charitable Trust started in 1998, to work towards poverty eradication. The micro credit program run by MCF is called “Gramasudar”. MCF promotes Sanghams (micro credit groups) in rura

l villages in the name “Gramasudar”. Each Sangham is typically named “Gramasudar - village name” (E.g. Rural women living below poverty line are organised into such Sanghams. Training is provided to inculcate unity and discipline. Savings is compulsory for the members of Gramasudar. Each Sangham would avail Term loans from banks / Institutions and lend among its members for income generation purposes. The members contribute to their savings account in their weekly meeting. The amount saved varies from Rs20 to Rs50 per member per week. The savings habit imbibes the habit of thrift and also serves as the margin required by the bank for providing term loans. In the initial year of the group, the members take loan only from the accumulated savings. After one year, bank offers loan to the groups. Gramasudar has a vision to reach 10,000 members in 20 years. First branch in Irumbarai village started in 1998. Second branch in Vadavalli started in 2005. Third branch in Venkitapuram started in 2009.
